I'm a braindead zoomer and cannot stay off my phone. I manage to read for like half an hour every other day. I don't wanna fall for the self-help rabbit hole but I've read that James Clear book and it's... okay I guess. Has anyone struggled with something similar?
buy a dumbphone.>b-b-b-butyou're sacrificing convenience for intellect here, this is what it takes, if you're not willing to undergo this trivial process of cleansing your mind of low quality stimuli, then you're not cut out for literature.tldr, give up the phone.

>>24767081Install the Lock Me Out app and put a hard limit on your phone usage. Or use the pomodoro technique, maybe both.
>>24767081If I knew how to read that book, I wouldn't need that book.
>>24767360It's not intended for the doomed zoomer who can't stay on task for thirty seconds. The purpose is to learn to analyse, integrate, and deeply understand the text that you're interacting with.

>>24767081just remove all social media/games/whatever the fuck you waste time on from your phoneand then read booksi was in the same place as you once. this is not rocket science
>>24767182Been here for 10 years you fucking retard.>>24767208Pomodoro is nice. It kinda works for me but not perfectly. I always end up not going back to studying at some point. >>24768686Yeah if that Lock Me Out doesn't work I might try uninstalling most shit I waste my time with. The thing is: even when I manage to spend like a day without using my phone much, despite me feeling good about it I usually go back to wasting around 5 hours on my phone the very next day.
>>24767081this book is literally just "there are different types of reading". without even getting into it, it boils down to paying attention to what you're reading and determining the kind of reading your doing.if you want to just be an adult, put a timer on your phone for 15 mins to start, increase it over time. just read during that time for the day and only keep going if you want too. make it a habit and then it's suddenly not a problem. if you're too much of a zoomer to read this then:>phone down for 15 mins a day and read.>done
>>24767147Fuck no! I remember life waiting in droll moments without a phone and the drawbacks are immense. Even looking up words and terms is useful with a smartphone. The hard part is finding enjoyable books to read.
>>24768764>uhh why can't i read anything longer than a slide thread>Been here for 10 years you fucking retard. This is who you are arguing against in every "x philosopher is cucked" thread, everytime a wikipedia summary is posted, everytime /pol/ racebait derails a thread. Everytime a faggot bags on an author he hasn't actuallly read. There is an attention whore zoomer behind it the screen, giggling to himself faggily.Report, sage and hide.
You can just disable the apps and be disciplined..IThat may not work for everyone, though. Phone addiction and the need for constant stimulation are real and hard to break for most people.
>>24769545It's 4chan, man. It's always been the mentally ill, and the deranged and mentally deficient. Did you think you were supposed to come here for serious discussion? This is the internet's containment section for freaks.
>>24767081Depends on how old you are. My best advice for being young is finding a balance between being a hermit that hates everyone and spends his whole day reading (the only diff. between an incel and an intellectual is the courage of the heart required to be intelligent) and going outside, spending time w friends, meeting crazy people, and living enough life to know what life is, something, in many ways, as Robin Williams' character in Good Willl Hunting can attest, more important than reading about love in any book. Another thing - don't read because you want to 'become Chad' or smthng like that - even if it means reading Shonen comics, those have plenty of creative and intellectual content that are good at a young age. Having been under 18 myself, I can say I lacked the matuity to even appreciate Shakespeare or anyone of his caliber at that age - I'm only 24 now but I am slowly starting to realize how young I was at 18 and how young I am in this moment. There's this great speech by James Baldwin called the "Artist's Struggle for Integrity" - I highly recommend it. It got me through some of my most depressive episodes at a young age. In any case, figure out what you want to read and why, and make sure it appeals to how you feel in that moment - sometimes, for me, the hardest part about reading is having no one in my life around me to talk about it with, which considering the nature of social media, which makes sure everyone is the same boring copy and paste version of another person, namely Drake, means that it is completely normal to be distracted all the time by porn and memes on the internet. Just, y'know, stay positive, don't kys, and even if you do, we'll still love you either way.
>>24769541>life waiting in droll momentsuhuh.look, they have this neat thing called a dictionary. they're really cool. you should try them out. also, you can fix those "droll moments" with, oh, i don't know, READING? MAYBE YOU COULD FUCKING READ? YOU DUMB SHITBREATHING MOTHERFUCKER.
>>24769545Who is this seething nigger talking about?
>>24770071You most likely
>>24769824Thank you for the input. I'll take a look at the speech you recommended. I don't really feel depressive, just have a hard time focusing on reading. For me, too, getting older changed my taste and allowed me to enjoy certain authors that I previously didn't like, and also the opposite is true: some authors that I liked when I was a teenager (e.g. Douglas Adams and Dawkins) I no longer enjoy.
>>24769834Dictionaries are ancient shit. And someone can just read from their phone.
>>24771925you know in House M.D. when he's forced to do clinical hours and he meets all sorts of idiots who have easily solved problems but refuse to see it until they're manipulated into doing so? That's you right now. You complain about a malady you ignore the prescription for. I know most likely this is all a meme and the troll is snug as a bug and all that, but on the off chance you're bein one hunnit right now with me, no cap, you have roundly insisted you have no need for your medicine, and are opting for homeopathic solutions for now.
>>24767081This book is very much not about "how to read and why", there's like a 4 page introduction on the subject and the rest of is it just Bloom analyzing a selection novels/short stories. Not a bad read if you're into that thing but nothing like Adler's book if that's what you're expecting.
>>24767081How am I supposed to learn how to read if I don't know how to read?????
