A few days ago I found a /lit/ guide on learning western philosophy from the greeks to now. Before reading anything it's advised to research the meaning of some words which I had never heard before. To be honest, even though it feels daunting it's also refreshing to learn something new.
For those who are self taught, how's your learning going, did anything good come out of it?

Kill yourself.

Yes, it led me to the True Path, as arduous as that journey is.

Sidestepping the question a bit but why is every philosophy thread here started by a beginner or targeted towards beginners? It seems like reasonable advanced types like me are chopped liver for whatever reason.

Read that after seeing 24 Hour Party People. Thanks Alan Partridge for introducing me to an all-timer of a book.

After the philosophy came the religion, then the mysticism, then the occult. You encounter a lot of interesting ideas, and ancient arguments about thoughts you've been having all your life already, and it will improve how you organize and categorize thoughts for cogency and defense. I mostly just read fiction now, though I've been getting the itch to read some philosophy of religion again lately. Maybe Ellul.

Maybe you could be the guy that starts those threads

>the only thing approaching an obligation that metaphysics can cobble together is that it must be true.
>there's no end to what can be imposed upon it as obligations.
>there's no way to know if any of these interfere with it's only obligation.
>this is why no progress has been made in metaphysics whatsoever.

This place has it's ups and downs, there are other philosophy oriented forums out there and I don't mean reddit that cater specifically to more established philosophical positions or just sciences and math. The overwhelming metaphysical mindedness here essentially locks most out of this and they are forced to make simple starts so it frequently appears that total beginners are the only participants. This can be detrimental but it also can lead to some really interesting stuff periodically which can't be found anywhere else.

Incidentally this method overwhelmingly favors oriental style philosophical discourse. The environmental similarities can eventually produce complex outcomes from highly simple premises. This board could re-enact almost the entire Zen movement from scratch if it was focused enough for instance.

I never learned any of the termanology, I just read the books and infer the meaning. Knowing termanology is only good when you want to discuss it with others
