Will reading philosophy solve all of my problems? If so, where do i start. If not, how do I solve all of my problems?
>>24776628it will solve some but give you much more
>>24776638Are the problems it will give me better than the problems I have right now?
>>24776628The point of philosophy is not to solve your problems, but provide you more of them. It's both a grift and a way for doomed virgins to distract themselves until death (which they are no closer to understanding).
>>24776675NTAAt best it might help you realize some of your problems aren't problems you really want to solve
>>24776628>Will reading philosophy solve all of my problems? No. Any philosophy that claims to do exactly that is bunk.>If so, where do I start.Any philosophy will do. Just don't break the law or hurt/kill people or yourself. >If not, how do I solve all of my problems?Very carefully. Also, you solve the problem that's closest to threatening your survival then go from there. Also, you must learn to judge if some of your problems aren't really worth solving. That's because the effort that takes to solve certain problems will not be commensurate to the payoff.
>>24776731 (me)>Any philosophy will do.Yes, even the ones that are bunk. It doesn't really matter what you believe in, except if that philosophy encourages you to harm yourself and your fellow man and/or break the law needlessly.
>>24776731>>24776735...
>>24776628No but it will help you think about them more clearly, or in different ways.
The one thing in common with all your problems...is YOU. What you put out to the world is what you get back. Time to take control of yourself.
>>24776628No, but the stoics will.
>>24776628No. Eastern philosophies like Buddhism, Advaita Vedanta, and Taoism can give you a few pointers on how to be happier (meditate everyday, renounce stuff). Otherwise philosophy will only ease your burden in the way that any other hobby can, namely by being fun and interesting.
>>24776628What are problems?
>>24776628The only thing actually applicable to my life I ever took from a philosophy book is in Discourse on Method when Descartes says not to be held back by traumatic experiences from your past because you can’t control them any more than you can control not being born into a royal house in “Persia or Mexico” I believe so it is silly to be held back by such things any more than you would kick yourself for not being born a king. That borders on self help tier advice but it is truly something difficult to grapple with
>>24776628I stumble upon an interesting point a week ago about the spiritual development. There are three things that provide you with it: religion, philosophy or psychology. Religion in the modern day just died out, philosophy is following it, so the modern way to fix your spiritual problems is psychology. I don't say that it's better or superiour, but it's definitely more popular and widespread
