Which e-reader do you have /lit/? Are you happy with it? Is it complicated to get books to it?

I am thinking about the Kobo Libra but it seems like getting books onto it is an extremely convoluted process that involves Calibre, KOreader, some plugins, and I don't even know what. And then I looked into Calibre and the first thing I see about it is that it doesn't let you put books in your own folders and it copies your entire library according to its folder scheme. Is there a better library program and a better reader or a better overall experience that isn't like installing Linux?

At this point from what I've read I think I should just continue buying actual paper books because this all just sounds like an extreme annoyance.

Or maybe I just need to install a good reader program on Windows. What's a good Windows program to read books in like ComicRack for comics?
>>
>>24777830

I bought kindle paperwhite the latest edition, using calibre converting books from annas archive to awz3 or whatever the file name is called, it works flawlessly

I read 8 books since i got it, amazing and convenient
>>
>>24777834
>using calibre converting books from annas archive to awz3 or whatever the file name is called, it works flawlessly
Do you just delete them after they get sucked into the Calibre library folder?
>>
>>24777834

And i don’t complicate my library, i keep a book folder in documents on windows i just drag and drop these to calibre having kindle plugged in
>>
>>24777834
This, it's quite simple and greatly increased my reading, plus the books are free
>>
>>24777830
I have a Kindle Paperwhite of the 11th generation. It's good, does the job, I always keep it in airplane mode. As the other anon I just transfer and convert books via Calibre, it's very straightforward.

But use the catalog next time, there is already an e-reader thread...
>>
>>24777838
This, I do that as well
>>
>>24777837

Sometimes, but why are you concerned with that if they weight less than 1mb usually
>>
>>24777830
>extremely convoluted process that involves Calibre, KOreader, some plugins, and I don't even know what.
I just copy epub to device. Then read.
>>
>>24777863
How do you have so few books that it's not an issue? Just the Loeb Classical Library is like 15gb.
>>
If e-reading isn’t real reading. May as well play a video game.
>>
No, Calibre is trivial to use. You don't need Koreader, it's worse than most stock readers anyway, it just has lots of settings you can change for no good reason.

The main reason to buy Kobo over Kindle is that it has better folder support. Kindle has folders, but you have to make them on the device with the shitty touch screen, so I typically just delete books I'm done with to keep the layout neat, I could always re-add them with Calibre later if I want to reread them in a few years.
>>
kobo clara
i bought it specifically to avoid those headaches. i just drag and drop epubs
looking forward to the new pynchon for free
>>
>>24777915
How is this relevant when Calibre has its own folder structure that has nothing to do with anything?
>>
>can't use it on a NAS drive
>can't manually organize your folders
>author expects you to have the most recent Windows
>shits the bed with large libraries because it keeps backups of everything that you ever deleted
>have to use it as a file browser because the folders it makes have dumb shit in their names
>is shit as a file browser
Calibre is just bad.
>>
>>24777830
Why would you buy a separate device for reading instead of just reading books on your phone?
>>
>>24778058
Because you can get a bigger screen in a lighter device with better battery life, and e-ink looks nicer.
>>
I'm on my third paperwhite and 2 days ago I got a 13" samsung tablet which is nice for the pdfs unreadable on kindle
>>
>>24778133
I can post a side by side comparison with the kindle size if anyone's interested
>>
Its been ages since I saw an e-reader in public. Did people realise that e-ink is a scam and reading on a smartphone is fine?
>>
>>24778139
Post it
>>
What's an e-reader that
>is at least 10"
>comes with expandable storage
>can load pirated books and manga
>high battery life
>comfy
>>
>>24778397
>>comes with expandable storage
None unless you get an Android that's basically an entire tablet/smartphone/spyware with a shitty screen.
>>
>>24778397
You don't need expandable storage, the files are pretty tiny
>manga
Oh, it's a retard, carry on
>>

I snagged a BOOX Go Color 7 II for 200$, I've had a kindle paperwhite for about 6 years, only used calibre. Pretty excited to upgrade and fuck around with android based e-reader and read manga on it, typically i read it on my phone. I don't mind the de-saturated newspaper comic look so. It gets here this week.
>>
>>24778237
I didn't try to match the same color warmth which i could, it's mostly for size comparison. I prefer reading on dark mode on both but this was better for capturing. It's also the latest paperwhite which is bigger than the previous versiond
>>
I use kobo Clara. I wanted an ereader because of the obvious convenience but I also like the feel of it in my hand. I need to buy a battery for it and figure out how to replace it though. Would recommend, thought it's the only one I've ever owned besides an ancient Kobo, which I believe was just simply called a Kobo. I have no complaints. thank you for reading my blog
>>
>>24778642
Forgot to mention, if a book I want to read isn't on the kobo store I simply buy a physical copy. I'd imagine I could probably get an ePub on there quite easily, but I have a Mac and at the moment don't feel like figuring it out. I don't really mind much either way.
>>
>>24778645
it should support epubs without issue. just plug it into the mac and place the file into the dropbox folder

Paperwhite. All day all night.
>>
I am a retarded normie that got tired of doomer videos and vidya and want to learn different things. I found out about the Kobo, but they make it annoying to get the b/w version. So I just got the libra colour. so why the fuck not.

now I need some books to read. i haven't read a book in like 23 years.
>>
>>24778719
Ignore the faggots saying to start with the greeks or read infinite jest.
Read a bunch of fun slop to get you into reading again, like light novels or something
>>
I got the paperwhite and I like it. I haven't read any books on it yet. But I like it.
>>
>>24778782
ok sounds good.

i am actually interested in the story of Carlito's Way. Something about the gangster life is appealing. So i grabbed that book. But I'm not sure what else to get, I got a ton of random shit. But i'll start off with carlito's way.

my goal is that I'm an artist, and I want to learn more things to channel into drawing. because I need an edge over AI in some capacity.
>>
>>24778719
You should start with Infinite Jest, the greatest book of all time. Ignore the faggots telling you to read web/light novel slop.
>>

Librera from the f-droid site. It's the same as the paid version

Is it just mine or does anyone else's Paperwhite also doesn't show the book covers on the menu? I tried everything but nothing seems to work. I use it on airplane mode at all times because I pirate books and I don’t wanna Amazon tracking what I'm reading, maybe that's the issue?
>>
>>24777830
>getting books onto it is an extremely convoluted process that involves Calibre, KOreader, some plugins

Getting KOReader on a Kobo is literally just dragging and dropping one folder. Once you have KOReader, you can connect wirelessly to Calibre and send books without having to connect the device to a computer.

It couldn't be easier anon.
>>
>>24778990
You need to enable it in the settings
>>
>>24777899
do you have sauce on all of the LCL in a decent format?
>>
>>24779040
I'm not talking about the cover on the lock screen, but on the library itself.
>>
>>24779180
Mine show normally unless they are pdf ofc

E-ink is as easy on the eyes as the printed pages of a regular book.
E-ink consumes zero energy once a page of text is loaded. Zero. The result is a device that can go literally months of frequent use without needing to charge.
Most (not all) e-readers are designed with the idea that it will be handled like a book instead of a multi-purpose touchscreen device and the ergonomics reflect this making them more comfortable to hold for long reading sessions.

E-readers (currently) suck dick at color display and aren't the appropriate size for comics and manga, so if that's your main type of consumption, pass on them for now.

E-readers also only really shine when you are using a 3rd party conversion program and are pirating books. You got a be a special kind of retard to buy an e-book.
>>
>>24779294
I don't have an e-reader, can you elaborate on the differences between reading a PDF on my phone, versus e-ink?

Have you ever played with this drawing board? It's the same principle behind e-ink. e-ink screen doesn't have light behind it like normal screens, the light shines on it from the sides. Think of this drawing board with small leds shining on it
>>
>>24778983
Why not ReadEra?
>>
>>24777830
>And then I looked into Calibre and the first thing I see about it is that it doesn't let you put books in your own folders and it copies your entire library according to its folder scheme.
I agree it sucks, but in general once the files are in there you rarely need to access them directly, and once they're in the db you can go crazy with tags, categories and whatnot. Also when you export books from calibre to your device or your filesystem you can customize the saving template. On my e-reader everything is sorted by genre or topic.
>>
>>24779384
I found Librera to be better. I was using readera

I'm suprised many here are singing praise for Paperwhite + Calibre, it's shit. Can't create collections, can't organise by collections, sorting by series is limited. I find I have to use plugboards.
I never realised how bad it was untill I got my Kobo and everything just worked through Calibre.
>>
>>24779733
>Can't create collections, can't organise by collections, sorting by series is limited.
I don't need any of these features. If your goal is to store everything you've ever read on your e-reader, maybe these are useful. You could get the same experience by just moving anything you've finished to a "read" folder, though.
>>
>>24777899
What are some /lit/ book collection megas or torrents? Like /x/ has the 60gb occult library, does /lit/ have for example all philosophers in a collection, the entire western canon in a collection, all art history in a collection, etc?
>>
>>24779413
>once they're in the db you can go crazy with tags, categories and whatnot.
Yeah except you have to browse all that in Calibre which is clunky and terrible because it's made by an early 2000s Linux guy.
>>
>>24779742
>by just moving anything you've finished to a "read" folder, though.
Such an awesome idea for tens of thousands of books organized in actual folders.
>>
>>24779751
Why do you need to walk around with tens of thousands of books you'll never read? I use my Kindle for reading, not showing other people in public all the books I've read and how nicely organised they are into folders.
>>
>>24779733
As long as my cloud storage is organized by folder and my e-reader by collections i dont care about meta data or anything. I usually only use calibre to change covers
>>
>>24779760
If you are not storing all the books you want to read on your kindle for the impending end times scenario without electricity access i dont know what to tell you

First of all, people who aren't illiterate Americans like you actually read. Second, people keep books for reference, you don't have to read 24/7, but if you can't understand why it's good to have books on you that you can reference at any time, then I can't help you, eat your gabagool.
>>
>>24779992
it's also good that you can grab your e-reader and know there's a wide range of possibilities. If one day i feel like i want to read about a certain topic I'm already set. If any reader could carry his entire library in a portable manner he would, e-readers allow this

How many have you all transferred? For me around 1500
>>
>>24778719
Where do you niggers even live, in Japan I bought one through Rakuten - one click and done. 21k yen or something.
>>
>>24780028
i only ever keep 10 or so on the ereader and read 1 or 2 at a time. my actual library is on my pc and reference books are something i'd only use physically
>>
>>24780032
My main collection is in a cloud service so it's accessible anywhere but e-readers still allow an extra portability
>>
>>24777830
Don't overcomplicate yourself OP. Just get a cheap second hand kindle and jailbreak it, it's really easy and can be done in about an hour of your time. After that you can automatically customize every single little thing about koreader or just act like a normal person and change just the font and the screensaver like everyone does. Once you get koreader on your POS kindle you don't need to worry about using Calibre (which is a shitty program only shilled by redditors) since you can just make a folder in your kindle called "books" or whatever and open your books without worrying about converting to specific formats or anything like that.
>But add-ons and scriptlets!
Completely unnecessary and really only exist for /g/ autists to mess around with instead of doing something useful with their lives

This is the first one I made. I've never drawn in my life so I don't know how good or bad it is but I personally enjoy it. It's not even sexual for me, I just draw what I enjoy looking at and when I do it I enter this sort of meditative state where nothing else exists but me and the curves of this anonymous girl.

I've got this model of Kindle I forgot the name but it's the more expensive model compared to the paperweight.
I've never seen anyone else use it and apart from its different shape from other models, the difference is that you can choose how "yellow" you want your pages to be. Not really worth the extra price but it has a nice premium feel.
