I know nobody here reads (or talk about read it) richard yates. But i finish yesterday one of his late novels (pic) and i feel something different than in his other works. There is a kind of redundancy and slopinness in the second half that is not usual in him.
But i dont want to talk about it but about, (and this is only for the few ones who read it. )
>is he trying to talk about what happens when mediocre-normie people try to be an artist?.
>or is he trying to say a more wide concept of art as a false idol and a futile social pursuit?

anyway, it could be a richard yates general too. the guy deserves a thread from time to time.
>eleven kind of loneliness is a masterpiece.

I haven't read it to know the answer but the premise mediocre people aspiring to be artists is fun. I can think of films that have dealt with it as a comedy but no book that has attempted it so this might be worth checking out.

its not even with a hint of sarcasm. yates loves all his characters. just so you know.
