Been rereading Notes from Underground and it's wild how much the Underground Man is basically proto-incel. This dude checks every single box. He's rotting in his shitty apartment on the edge of town completely isolated because he can't handle basic social interaction without embarrassing himself. When he does try to connect with people he crashes a dinner party where nobody even wants him there and spends the whole time seething about how much better looking and socially successful his old classmate Zverkov is. He literally says he'd trade his "intelligent face" for Zverkov's "stupid but handsome" one. The whole Liza subplot is the most brutal part. He picks up a prostitute, delivers this manipulative speech to make her cry then admits later he only did it for sport and to feel powerful over someone. When she actually shows him genuine affection he can't handle it and tries to pay her afterward out of spite. He straight up says "for me to love meant to tyrannize" because he's never conceived of a relationship that isn't about domination. His sexuality is described as "dark, subterranean, loathsome depravity" done alone in shame. Dostoevsky was writing this in 1864 but somehow perfectly captured the psychology of resentment-driven sexual failure that defines the modern incel. The spite, the obsession with looks, the hatred of successful men, the inability to connect, the need to humiliate women to feel powerful it's all there. He even calls himself a spiteful man repeatedly. Wild that this archetype has existed for 160+ years.
It’s almost like it’s not unique to any particular time and that many males might go through periods of their lives like this, even if not indefinitely. Taxi Driver had the same archetype, and I’m sure there’s plenty of other examples across pre-internet age media; it’s nothing new
>>24781372I wish we could go back to before we started putting lazy labels on everything. I mean, sometimes new words are helpful, and sometimes they are gay and retarded and have vague meanings. Like "gaslighting" and "incel."
>>24782476I would include "gay" and "retarded" as well. They aren't as new, but they're just as unhelpful. Otherwise, I agree with you.
>>24782492>I would include "gay" and "retarded" as well. You kinda got me on that one
>>24781372I can’t see how he’s wrong. I guess I’m like Kalganov from Karamazov Brothers> He is twenty years old, stylish, and handsome “with a very sweet, pale face” and “beautiful, thick, light brown hair.” Dreamy and thoughtful but prone to laziness and distraction, Pyotr has “intelligent” blue eyes and a child-like manner. He is quiet and awkward, but he is also prone to excitement over the smallest things, quickly becoming talkative, impulsive, and giggly. He is also described as a thoughtful but distracted person. The problem of innocence, I guess you would call it gullibility. Kalganov believes in Dimitri’s guilt.>Was it worth it? Was it worth it? If you believe in the worst in people, then it’s Kalganov >Kalganov says it’s better to live in dreams
>>24782492I wish we could use the original meaning of "gay" again.
>>24781372Not gonna read your shit. If you want to talk about a book you like, stop using such retarded internet slang. Grow up nigger start using real words.
>>24784099Checked. Me too. Gaiety was a beautiful and simple form of merriment, we should return to the original usage and simulatenously return to calling so called "gay men" homosexuals, for that is what they are, and it is not a derogatory term that anyone can really take issue with. Some homosexuals might be gay sometimes, but usually they're too preoccupied with base activities and self-loathing to be truly gay.
>>24786199>Some homosexuals might be gay sometimes, but usually they're too preoccupied with base activities and self-loathing to be truly gay. They can't be truly gay mostly because of bigots.
>>24782492says the gay retard
>>24782476incel is the new scoundrel, gaslighting is gay, also there is no going back, we will loss context of everything like this Simpson's bit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i2l-LQ-dXI&t=2s
>>24781372waitso Notes From The Underground is about an autistic incel like me? i guess i will put it on my backlog, i never read it before. i'm reading Crime And Punishment right now and I'm really really liking it
>>24786814Hey, I'll have you know I'm straight as an arrow.
Reminder: everybody who loves the russian slop is a pseud tranny. We hate it here, you want find a single person in the entire Eastern Europe who likes this shit. It's just boring and retarded and gay niggerbabble, not real literature.
