What's the cutoff point before the Dune books start being bad?
>>
>>24783179
>religion is le tool
it's already bad from the start
>>
>>24783181
Descriptively true from the most curory reading of history, even if you believe there is one true religion.
>>
>>24783181
>saying elagabalus tried using religion as a tool to control people is le reddit
>>
>>24783179
Arguably after the first one insofar as it's the best. Messiah, Children, and God Emperor are still good but your enjoyment of them will depend on what you liked most about the first books (eg if you like the political intrigue, you'll like Messiah most). After that it really starts to go downhill.
>>
>>24783179
Messiah is the only decent sequel. And it's not very good.
>>
Messiah filtered me. Not sure if I want to keep going after that.
>>
>>24783272
In what sense?
>>
>>24783179
When the son starts writing them.

It's good right up to Chapterhouse, where the sudden and utterly inexplicable appearance of Jews feels like something forced in by the editors. Inb4 /pol/ accusations, Jews are out of nowhere shoehorned in as basically cave dwellers that ignored all the evolutions of the other world religions for +20k years by... hiding in caves. I can't think of any way to describe this other than Zionist supremacy.

Le reddit infilitrators of this board will downplay God Emperor and Heretics, because what's left of their withered intuition tells them both those books are hard allegorical proofs against socialism and Marxism as workable state solutions. The series stops being about the dangers of cults of personality and fascism ay that point, and becomes a story about the dangers of bureaucracy and centrism. Heretics in particular suggests the only true route to acheiving a Marxist state for humanity is in humans becoming something other than human in the form of the Bene Tleilaxu. I think Herbert is correct, and it even maintains his general theme of humans being animals able to see that there is something finer than the material, even if they cannot belong to that ideal.

Tl;dr

The series ends with Heretics
>>

It felt like nothing happened. It was just boring, I guess. Also, the Tleilaxu and Duncan are gay and uninteresting.
>>
>>24783333
But chapterhouse has *that* scene.
>>
>>24783181
Not true. First dozen pages are ok.
>>
>>24783388

I don't remember anon... I know there's a scene where baby Teg is riding on someone's shoulders and another scene where that one Bene Geserit is knocking robots over on IX. Not to mention the cat people. It almost makes me think Herbert was letting his (J)e(w)dditors bully him into modeling CH off of Lynch's goofy movie... but maybe that doesn't work on the timeline. I dunno what came out first, and I'm not about to google it. I don't trust machines that think ;)

About 23 years old.
>>
>>24783600
jk I've never read them
>>
>>24783541
The scene where Sheeana fucks the memories into baby Teg while Odrade watches.
>>
>>24783181
Do you think that all religions are objectively true or is this some kind of cartoonish tradtard contrarian dismissal.

...

Oh yeah... it read so much like Stephen King in that moment. *sigh* we really are doomed...
>>
>>24783653
Is pic related? I don't get it.
>>
>>24783704
Filtered
>>
>>24783707
Yes, but walk me through it anyway. Herbert became a hedonist American? In what way was his prior work a means to an end?
>>
>>24783179
Postwar boomer sci-fi is always about broad stroke futurist concepts. Otherwise this: >>24783181 in for a penny, in for a pound.
>>
>>24783181
Dilating religitard. You are the cattle the bene gisserit use.
>>
>>24783179
The absolute cutoff is when Brian starts writing them, but they progressively get wackier starting with the first one. There are more and more questionable decisions as the books progress. I would say maybe God Emperor is the last one where the interesting and the stupid are still balanced in favor of interesting.
>>
>>24783723

No I'm just making a general statement about the degeneration of American culture.
>>
>>24783179
the consenus is 4, i stopped before finishing 2. herbert's statecraft is still cool, but he makes brazen retroactive changes, and i was bothered. one is plenty for me.
>>
Its bad after the first one, period.
