what's a good book you think deserves to be read negligently? what are some of your most cherished memories of inattention? which encounters with the ineffable did you most enjoy blithely skipping over?
>>
>>24786672
but I have to read a book every week for the social media thing I'm doing and if I fall behind people will notice and care and judge me

Any time a character sang or food being described in any of Tolkien's works.

There's only one way to read a book, by reading all the words presented to you on the page in order. If you do anything else, you didn't read the book, but something else entirely.

I think you're right, the idea is the basedjak feeling like his book in particular is worthy of some special attention
>>

I read OP as meaning the same thing. All books worth reading are worth reading well, only 'jak would go into detail about how well one particular book needs to be read.

Do you think maybe op didn't mean it that way and hence the jak

99% of everyone in history to "read" City of God would have heard it read aloud.

Ergo, OP and Anon are in agreement.

Probably anything maximalist or by David Foster Wallace. Such a log to read

I know what you mean, anon. I had some chud get mad at me for reading The Savage Detectives in under a month (???) and then ask if I could reconstruct the timeline of the nonlinear middle section from memory and act like this when I said probably not and that I didn't care if I couldn't.
All the anons mocking you are this guy

Yes, some books are written to be read slowly and savored, and some books are written to be read quick and smooth and enjoying the rollercoaster.
This is usually self-evident from the writing itself.
I do not need to be told how to read a fucking book.
Who is this person talking to me
God I hate people
>>
>>24787592
Those people didn't read it, they watched and listened to a performance of a written text and so did the crowds that gathered in ancient Greece to see Homer's works performed, they literally didn't read it.

Atlas shrugged. You can skip Rand's boring tirades and non miss anything.
>>

Well its more that works like City of God were popular in the middle ages when making copies was tons of work. So if you have to educate a ton of people on it you read it aloud, that way you can spend your copy time on the Vulgate.
