In a month, 30 (thirty) people have bought my self-published genre fiction off Amazon. feels good, even though the received royalties barely even pay for a large coffee.
How has your self-pub journey been so far?
>>
>>24789900
That's cool. How did you make that happen? My shit just sits there, unobserved and unbought.
>>
>>24789900
I published a collection of my philosophy there and no one bothers it.
>>

Friends, family, and a shockingly viral Reddit post
>>

Friends and family don't count as part of your sales numbers c'mon. Even I can get people I know to buy a copy and pretend they read it. Was the reddit post about the book? How did it go viral?
>>
>>24789940
Ok, in that case I sold 28 copies
>>
>>24789940
It was showing my cover art, map, and some worldbuilding
>>
>>24789949
Though I should elaborate that my siblings and cousins told my book to their friends, who bought copies
>>
Proud of you anon. That's about one book a day. Maybe you can get a slow burn going. Advertising and related things are nice for numbers. But words of mouth says more. Hope you get good feedback. Now if you get another one there? Two a day might sell. Keep fighting the good fight. And what genre?
>>
>>24789953
Nice. Must have been pretty good stuff if it actually motivated someone to buy the book. Probably means it'll be successful if you put in the marketing work.
>>
>>24789959
Thanks, it’s dark fantasy. I gave out the epub to some people in /sffg/, and I posted it on RR too, where I think I got a few buyers as well.
All together I think I got 14-15 sales from the Reddit post, 2 were from my cousin and sister, 6-7 from friends and acquaintances, and then I'm not sure where the last five or six sales came from.

I actually just put up an ad on Royal Road, and was going to look at Amazon ads as well soon. I was debating throwing $20 for a 4channel.com ad, though I probably shouldn't since it has my name on the book and whatnot, and last time I put an ad on here a year ago (for my webnovel) I had some schizophrenic individuals review bomb me, along with the one guy from Unreal who made an AI generated song on youtube explaining why my ad was shit
>>
>>24789985
I'm surprised your ads here got any attention at all. Mine didn't do shit. Literally no reaction lol. But yeah, if a tiny bit of advertising is bringing you that much attention it might be worth the money. Looks like it has a good buy-rate. You beat the odds. Congrats.
>>
>>24789985
why does that happen?
>>
If you are happy that's right, but if I published a book I'd want it to be read, so I'd probably try to get popular in social media (my preferred option is youtube, because quality is higher and you don't have to sacrifice too much intellectual integrity) before publishing. It's really not that different to what was done in the past, since many authors tried to become renowned journalists before publishing
>>

Thanks!
>>24789995
Why does what happen?
>>
>>24790005
This is legit my plan lmao. Build a youtube channel and then try to sell books to that audience.

>YouTube

Does that really work very well? I have plenty of social media, in fact I actually have several thousand Twitter followers, but I don't have a real presence on YouTube. Is YouTube good for moving books, and getting people interested in your writing?

If you aren't willing to sit your ass down in front of a camera, can you even do youtube?
Maybe I could grow of of being a loretuber who just uses AI voiceslop to read off star wars expanded universe wikipages..
>>
Wow. I'm very happy for you, anon. My novels have been for sale on Amazon for a few years and, paperbacks and e-books combined, I've sold a total of a couple dozen copies. Didn't even earn enough to pay back the copyright fee.
>>
>>24790077
idk i just started two months ago and still have zero views and zero subs, so maybe it's not very good. i figure it cant possibly hurt though. and if the channel picks up and even 1% of them buy the book, maybe that'll kickstart it enough to find a wider audience. that's the plan anyway.
>>24790085
i put my ass in front of the camera and do all my videos with my ugly ass face right there front and center. maybe i should hire a cute asian girl with big tits to jusr read scripts though, because it doesn't seem like my mug inspires many clicks

I made some infographics that went semi-viral
