>Claiming morality is relative >Charging money for teaching servicesI'm so glad these beasts have been relegated to the dustbin of history!
who's gonna tell him
>>24794268Sophists have dominated the world since the Romanticists
>>24794268the sophists won, ethical relativism rules the post modern world. The only Platonist with power are trad caths and islamists who claim all morality is based on eternal principles set forth by god.
>>24794313A platonist novelist just won a Nobel prize yesterday though. Yes, melancholy of resistance contains multiple references to Plato, Heraclitus and Pythagoras in it and it’s ultimate message is either agnostic or theist.
>>24794268they were based and did nothing wrong
>>24794313>ethical relativism rules the post modern worldIt's the opposite
>>24794268>claiming morality is relativeIsn’t it? But most people in the West don’t believe this. They believe Leftism is the Truth.
>>24794355>It's the oppositehow? There is no more logical consistency to anyone's arguments anymore. Something is 'good' if it harms our enemies and bad when fails to benefit us. That is the only moral law anybody follows. >>24794316You rec?
>>24794268how did they win so hard?
>>24794389>They believe Leftism is the TruthThat's the problem anon, leftist values are incoherent. You've got queer trans sex workers in Berlin and SF dancing for Hezbollah and Iran because they hate America and the west.
>>24794355I'm not sure about that. The attitude of moral absolutism that one sees in the culture wars seems only apparent, for actions aren't judged as good or bad in themselves, but according to who does them. And that seems to be the case on both sides.
>>24794457I’m referring to melancholy of resistance. Krasznahorkai won Nobel yesterday.
>>24794268>Socrates criticizes the sophists for using obscure language that, once you strip it all away, says nothing and means nothingSounds like a lot of philosophers today desu
>>24794779That guy is talking out his butt, moral relativism won. We are so far down the rabbit hole that we can't even return to moral absolutism since people can no longer separate actions from actors.
The sophists were right.Saled professionals with monetary interests vs. people how gives their "teachings" for free.To collect some knowledge, let alone wisedom, takes a lot of effort. You need time you cannot spend otherwise, e.g. sport, a job.Therefor, it's curious why somebody should spend the fruits of their work for free. Except it wasn't about knowledge and wisedom but propaganda.
