is it true that men read to impress women?
>>
Some do, but most don't (and those that do are often merely pretending - cf. the "performative male" phenomenon)
>>
Yes. Look at gay men, they don't fucking read.
>>

Maybe if they're reading something like Sally Rooney or Jane Austen. If they're reading The Iliad or Infinite Jest, they're more likely reading to impress other men. Or maybe just because they want to.

>when you’re at a performative male competition and your opponent is reading a romance fantasy novel
>>

>performative male
They don't exist. it's another elaborate shaming tactic and gatekeeping device than women do for fun. See "men writing women" for another example.
>>
I have not met a single woman who was impressed by reading. Further, I haven't met any who knew anything at all.
>>

women are not particularly impressed by reading, maybe reading of particular books that they heard about on tiktok, but not by reading in itself
they would not be impressed if you told them you are reading some literally-what book just because you found the topic interesting
>>
>>24794826
based on this board, most men are reading to impress other men
>>
>>24795094
I understand you're far too socially retarded to know this, but they definitely exist.
>>

I'm impressed by reading, assuming the guy really likes to read and follows his own path. I'm not impressed with guys just reading genre slop books, or reading off a list of books they're supposed to read, or just working their way through philosophy books so they can quote them without having thoughts of their own.
This sums up 95% of male readers.

you're a faggot eunuch, not a woman
>>
>>24795094
They do, they're the men that tryhard to like things women like and pretend to be feminists and shit.

It's true.

>is it true that men read to impress women?
It's too much of a chore to read with the sole purpose of make your lady wet from time to time.
It is impressive to the women though, so it is one of the perks of reading.

The performative male is a meme, anon.
Those men who enjoyed romance before that meme exploded (which btw, isn't the performative male supposed to read feminist lit and stuff like atomic habits?) didn't do it to get the pussy, because women would consider them honorary gays.
>>24795432
This anon made the grievous mistake of thinking that women understand the shortcomings of the male reader community. They have inflated expectations on what a male reader is.
They would probably get turned off if they had someone really into reading as their partner.
So
>I'm impressed by reading, assuming the guy really likes to read and follows his own path
Is true to a certain point.
Only true classics, like the autobiography of a saint, can filter them if you are locked in enough.
>>
>>24795497
only read half of this but to any self-aware anons it’s safe to assume this fella doesn’t know how to make the young girls hearts go aflutter.
>>
>>24794826
Referring to "men" and "women" in such monolithic terms is why you're never going to get a real answer. Some men read performatively, others don't. Some women skim booktok books to goon to, others don't. If you want to introduce a new "hey guys ever notice that men..." you need to find a couple of instances of a certain behavior, and if that's all you need, you will find it. Do internet-derived gender trends speak for everyone? No, but if enough believe them, then people will be treated as if it did.
