Who is this shit even for?
It's for kids but it has swearing in it?
Wow so edgy.

Small Gods may just be the most infuriating book I've every read. It's not necessarily the worst, but something about Pratchett's surface level references to philosophy and religion with no deeper commentary or understanding pisses me off so much. The entire purpose of the book is to make people who vaguely remember the concept of the Allegory of the Cave from high school feel both smart and unpretentious when they are neither. Reddit ass book.

>It's for kids
Its for children and young adults, yes.

Pratchett is an actual academic liberal, its "reddit" in the sense its ideologically identical. He is however, an enormously smart man if you check out his self biography and writings on philosophy.

But also, still, classical liberal academic.

Discworld is the literary equivalent of those lolsorandom icanhazcheezburger memes that millennials posted in 2007 in their attempt to use quirkiness to hide the fact they they had no souls. The whole thing gives off theater kid vibes that can be detected from the next continent over.

Reddit fucking incarnate.

I recently experienced some serious discord when confronting how widely-regarded and praised these books are vs. how shite they actually are. I read Guards! Guards! which is considered one of the best books in the series and was amazed at how sloppy, poorly written, unfunny, and disjointed it was. Easily one of the worst books I’ve ever read, but then you look at the reviews and realize that like 98% of people think it’s the best thing ever. It’s basically Minotaur Milking Farm-tier slop for the le heckin intellectual quirk chungus reddit crowd. This experience convinced me that nearly all normies are just peasant NPCs.

It's as good crash course in culture as your "muh western canon" is. And it's light and fun reading. Some books shit themselves in the process but beginning part is good in most of them.
