I brung ye a playpretty
>>24797185The little retarded kid was one of the few highlights of this book. Altogether it has been my least favourite McCarthy though I've not read everything he's written; but it's my least favourite out of Outer Dark, Blood Meridian, The Road, and No Country for Old Men.
>>24797185>>24797249Child of God was written starting from a cut section of Outer Dark, and it was supposed to be a cash grab because he and his first wife (I think) were broke. Can you imagine that? Corncob actually thought that a book about a serial killer and necrophiliac would sell more than his other work. Lmao. When I was reading this and the cave part was revealed I audibly gasped and then broke out laughing.
>>24797309He had a trust fund. He was never without. That is a mythic fabrication.
>>24797376However much it was, it wasn't enough to support a wife and child because they got divorced for that reason. And then he remarried a cute tomboy when All the Pretty Horses blew up and he found real money.
>>24797394You do not know what you are talking about.
>>24797424Okay, good talk.
>>24797424Both of his ex-wives with massive axes to grind against him have claimed independently that they were dirt poor while living with Cormac. The fact that he refused easy money by lecturing on his work is not some hidden information. He was poor by choice, but poor nonetheless. His choice won't take away the hardship. Sure he received grants a few times to research but 27 years is a long period, and it wasn't like the genius grant was paid to him in one go altogether.
>>24797185Cold enough for ya?
>>24797500You are wrong.
>>24797605Sure showed me
>>24797185The bit when he goes to the store to buy his girlfriend some nice clothes is one of the best bits of black humour I've ever read.~~~The sales girl unleaned herself from the counter. She and Ballard were about the same height. She said: What size did you need?Ballard looked at her. Size, he said.Did you know her size?He rubbed his jaw. He’d never seen the girl standing up. He looked at the salesgirl. I don’t know what size she takes, he said.Well how big is she?I don’t believe she's as big as you.Do you know how much she weighs? She’ll weigh a hunnerd pounds or better. The girl looked at him sort of funny. She must be just small, she said. She ain’t real big. They’re over here, said the girl, leading the way.
>>24797185Remember gang, Lester Ballard was a child of God, much like yourself.
For me it’s The Orchard Keeper
