I remember someone getting canceled (like, literally, the novel was canceled) for writing black characters while not being black herself. The author made an apology letter and kow towed.
Someone "graded" her apology letter (for example when she wrote "I'm sorry for causing grief" was corrected by the grader as "I'm sorry for being ignorant and for causing righteous grief by my stupid acts". And the grader was praised for her act of charity and for her warmth showed to the canceled author.
