What order do I read her works to get the most out of them and what secondary materials should I have on hand?
>>24817296So:>Conversations with FriendsThis one doesn't require muchx you should probably familiarize yourself with Hegel's Lectures on religion if you haven't.>Normal PeopleMilestones. Definitely listen to all of Pheobe Bridgers Records and Boygenius. Volume I of Capital and a familiarity with the little red book.>Beautiful World, Where Are YouProbably just going to need to have a digital edit of the Pulpit Commentary ready.>IntermezzoDefinitely going to at least need a subscription for Bratty Milf for this one. But also you should work through all of Wittgenstein if you haven't yet.
>>24817296read in chronological order: mr. salaryconversation with friendsnormal peopletwo storiesbeautiful worldintermezzo
>>24817296First read Ulysses and then read her essay on Ulysses and then you can start with what ever you feel like.
>>24817332>>24817344You need to work through stuff like Milking farm before you can tackle this stuff.
>>24817347i prefer Black Future myself
>>24817363Is this to be read first or with any of Rooney's texts?
>>24817332>also you should work through all of WittgensteinYou have to be joking. I've read Wittgenstein and you have to be joking.Im trying to even imagine how somebody who comes away with Wittgenstein's conclusion on language even bothers to continue writing books in any way...that even makes sense.
>>24817296You guys make fun of her but no one in here would be able to write dialogue like she does, or a coherent plot for what matters. She's THE mid writer of the era but Normal People is unironically a page turner, provided all the themes (class, love, etc.) are developed in a very shallow way. She's a superficial writer, but if you're interested in writing and literature you should read her just to understand how it works.
>>24817296Just read Conversations with Friends. All of her other books are just reworkings of that one done with far less skill.
>>24817552Imagine being this autistic.
>>24817773He's right though, tell me one good reason why you need to reading fucking Wittgenstein to understand Sally Rooney
>>24817803had you read him, this would be evident
>>24817853Lol
>>24817552>Im trying to even imagine how somebody who comes away with Wittgenstein's conclusion on language even bothers to continue writing books in any way...that even makes sense.McCarthy must have been battling with this in his later years
>>24817912>Wittgenstein wrote like 2 actual books, 3 if you count On Certainty>McCarthy had 140 on himWtf how? Is it all just secondary material lmfaoKnowing that he read Wittgenstein im much more interested in his books. Its borderline impossible to write anything tradition OR even untraditional after having read Wittgenstein. Imo. But I do think theres an angle one can approach it from. But it would have to essentially be centered around the essence of the analogies Wittgenstein uses to break down the meanings of language, without breaking it down SO much that it essentially becomes a private language. And in my mind, that an incredibly tall order for a group of people that rely so heavily on language and its interpretations.
anyone have the reading chart for being able to understand Rooney's magnum opus?
>>24817552>>24817768>>24817771>>24817803You can just admit you didn't understand Intermezzo and go back to watching Bratty Sister.
>>24817803Are you genuinely retarded? Kek
>>24819131Probably is. People just don't get her work as they don't read the necessary materials.
>>24819998But hes such a major influence on Sally. Its so obvious she draws alot from Wittgenstein. Shame really. But what can one do but read him..maybe
>>24817803What is this amateur hour? I thought /lit/ was supposed to be well-read.
>>24819008>you didn't understand IntermezzoI dropped Rooney after BWWAY because all of /lit/'s criticisms of her came true with that book. Not going to waste my time again. Sorry not sorry.
>>24818466>Wittgenstein wrote like 2 actual booksBrown and Blue notebooks have been published, and I guess other lecture note type material too. Still wouldn't expect the count to reach 10
>>24820571the gates of Literature may only be opened by the Few
>>24820890Low IQ brown coded post.
I would like to have sex with her.
>>24817296>>24817332Do I need to have read the prisons note books before Normal People?
>>24823849Yes, and the Grundrisse
>>24823898So I will have to do volume 3 of capital, but is there a secondary to cover v2?
>>24817296>TFW no Irish author gfWhy even live??!
>>24817853>>24819008>>24819131>>24820571These are all non-arguments. You're just proving my point
>>24826145you need to be well read in ancient greek (not translations) to catch the intellectual greatness of Rooney
>>24822072BWWAY was almost as trashy as you.
