>>
>>24819362
I've only ever seen the 90s anime and was confused as shit by the non-ending. Then looked up the comic and saw that it has been running for literal decades and they didn't even animate a fraction of the story. Is it actually worth the time investment of reading?

No. It isn't weeb.

Most comics are just low quality art with low quality writing, but sometimes interesting, and maybe for Berserk even great plots and world building. That is not enough for me to spend 3000 hours on them.
>>
>>24819379
Gayest shit I've ever seen. Miura let his gay fetishes infect his drawing style and started drawing Griffith like a tranny.

Berserk will be forgotten in 20 years for being the boring uninspired slop that it is.
Thucydides' history will be remembered 1000 years after we are all dead.

One of these is literature, the other is not.
>>
>>24819617
It all depends on who values what. The reason we can read Thucydides today is because his works were preserved as they were viewed to be valuable. Much of ancient Greek literature is lost including plays by the great tragedians because they were deemed not worthy remembering. I'd say at least in short term history i.e. next 100 to 200 years (presuming there are even going to be human beings around in 200 years) Berserk will probably be preserved as one of the pinnacles of the manga genre and of late 20th century Japanese art in the same way that people preserved the works of Hokusai from the 1800s

I know this sounds cringe and gay but I'm sure some ancient greeks would recoil at the notion that people were actually reading Sophocles in the far future. The actual quality of the work is irrelevant in a sense, it's the perceived quality (legitimate or not) that is key to preservation

I hate manga/anime fags so much it's unreal. 99% of series are carried by their visuals, not their stories. If whatever anime or manga you enjoy had its art style swapped for one you didn't like you wouldn't stick with it for the story. Why? Because the stories are garbage. Why? Because the writing is not up to par. Why? Because it's not fucking literature you absolute moron.

Agreed. Guts is a pathetic cuckold that losers and browns self-insert as.
Akagi literally tried to warn everyone about the rise of degeneracy in both fiction and the real world. He is correct that moral absolutists would absolutely ruin everything. Guts and Kenshiro are nothing more than proto-tumblr self inserts you see everywhere these days 'fighting' for trans rights and other bullshit.

Genuinely a decent ending to the story. Casca recovered, Guts somewhere peaceful, Griffith forever discontented
>>
>>24819617
No it won't be forgotten.
I won't pretend that Berserk is a masterpiece in a literary sense, but it is well drawn and very entertaining at the very least.
The only reason you cling to The Greeks it's because you see it as a tool to prop yourself up, you don't actually see any value in it, it's just a we wuz kangs for white people.
>>
>>24821028
1. The Greeks weren't white
2. It has far more value than reducing it to we wuz kangs
>>
>>24819898
Fucking based in fact.
>>
>>24821028
I just read a bunch of Thucydides for 2 reasons: Knowing history and understanding human nature. There's a reason why military schools teach it.
>>
>>24819402
Lost Children is better than anything else
>>
>>24819657
If Miura hadn't treated Berserk like a cash cow until he croaked, then it would have been preserved.
Evangelion on the other hand will be preserved because Anno sold out long after it was completed.

I always considered Berserk complete with the end of the Golden Age arc (also where the 90s anime ended).
Everything after that is just Guts just walking around with wacky elves and witches.

This is a good point

It COULD be. A competent writer could easily turn it into a book, but the question is whether to keep every pointless fight or condense it down to the more meaningful ones; some of the charm will be gone as well. You could then insert a piece of artwork every 10 pages or so, like how some older novels used to do.
>>
Go back to your containment board, berserkfag
>>
I got so filtered by the ending of the first season anime finale. Could someone give me the tldr on whether there is redemption or not?

I really hate the cosmic nightmare demon story where Japanese writers punish good people for no reason and there's no lesson behind it. There were high hopes for Berserk to be more thematic.
>>
>>24822298
Golden Age exists basically to set up the rest of the story. It's definitely a little edgy and grimdark, but the two following arcs are actually fantastic, both Lost Children and then Conviction. I highly recommend starting with from the top with the manga, but you can just skip to the eclipse if you like. Vols 1-3 have lots that the anime doesn't cover, but it's proto-berserk in that Guts has a mild personality shift afterward.

A lot of the later chapters are there to teach Guts that there's value in companionship despite the inevitability of loss and I thought it was mostly very good, excepting the tediously long fights. IMO remains great (minus the very last bits) until Miura's death, then the art goes down the shitter and writing-wise, I stopped following.
>>
>>24821028
>but it is well drawn and very entertaining at the very least.
People forget about masters of art from the 19th century today and they are relegated to being obscure names for art historians or artists to know. Game of Thrones is an entertaining show but would it really last in the memory of people 40 years later? Berserk is neither an amazing piece of art like the old masters or as entertaining as the great tv productions of our day. Why would it live on any longer?
>The only reason you cling to The Greeks it's because you see it as a tool to prop yourself up, you don't actually see any value in it
Thucydides is by far one of the most worthwhile things anybody could ever read. The value of it is greater than you could ever know.
>>
>>24822653
That's a nice argument you have, but unfortunately, I had sexual intercourse with your mother, therefore rendering any point you make null.

To further add, Berserk really isn't too different from chivalric romances like Orlando Furioso; in fact, you could make the claim that it's just that but told in a modern way that fits with the times. It's just in a more modern format that has a wider reach in terms of reaching the average normie. Whether this mythic tale survives in the future is down to whatever priest class of the future religious theocracy determines what's canon or not.
