I rest easy knowing that the "technosingularity" is built upon the sham that is LLMs masquerading as "AI". Theirs is a house of cards built on pillars of sand. All their "progress" is illusory, the result of exponentially increasing compute and energy consumption for the paltry result of a slightly larger context of word chains. It's enough to bamboozle the public for now, but eventually they'll be asked to fulfill any of the major promises they've made and their inevitable failure to do so will cause the bubble to pop with the force of a sonic boom. Or perhaps they'll keep the con going long enough for the infinitely scaling energy consumption to defeat their ambitions instead. I don't really see this scheme as a real replacement for the cult of Marx in academia. Yes it has its faithful adherents, its high priests, who tout it as ardently as any disciple of the Prophet Marx (Peace Be Upon Him), but there's no staying power to it. There's no abstraction possible from it the way Marxist theory has been torn loose from the confines of revolutionary prophecy and turned into an instrument of literary criticism.
