I found out the hard way you shouldn't focus on Ezra Pound or any fascist writer for a research project. I got kicked out of my program for it.

Academics are THE problem. Brother Number 1 got it right.
>>
>>24820686
No you didn't.
>>
What's the problem about he having a little flirt with fascism? He stills the most important modernist poet of english language. Basically created a new aesthetical of poetry mixing politics, history, economy etc. Do scholars feel so superior to dismise his works just because of a political view?

He's a dogshit writer
>>
>>24820747
The guy is making up tall tales to scare people out of reading literature he disagrees with.

Type of shit a poetrylet would say. Pound had more influence on european poetry than Whitman and Dickinson combined. Only Zukofsky and WCW can match him among yankees and they were both all over his dick. Moore tried, but shes too boring.
>>
>>24820771
Side note, I always for some reason I got a wintery/woodsy feel from his poetry. I can't be alone in this sentiment.
>>
Obvious bait post this would not happen
>>
Lol
dissertations on Pound (usually focusing on his influence on other poets) are numerous.

This is lazy bait.

>Pound had more influence on european poetry than Whitman and Dickinson combined.
Correct, 90% of american literature is rightfully despised worldwide and Pound is one of the rare competitive american 20th century authors
>>
I doubt it. Leftists love his poetry

>Pound had more influence on european poetry than Whitman and Dickinson combined
>influence=quality
Slave.
>>
>>24821179
That's silly. American poetry absolutely dominated the 20th century. America has no less than three poets (Pound, Eliot, Stevens) that could be reasonable contenders for the greatest of the century.

Nabokov inexplicably loved modernist fiction while hating modernist poetry. A true enigma, that man.
>>
I only heard of him from the criminal intent episode with Nicole wallace.
>>
>>24821654
They aren't really the same thing
>>
>>24821769
True, but it's still curious why someone who recognizes and appreciates experimentation and boundary-pushing in prose would be so hostile to similar experimentation and boundary-pushing in poetry.

Poetry belongs in the 19th century

So do I. Modernist literature attempts to better emulate human perception, our interiority, our relationships with expression. Modernist poetry is a family guy "did you get the reference" circlejerk. "Oh you may not have noticed but the first half of this line is taken from a 17th century translation of Ovid and the second half is from a short comedy poem Lewis Carroll wrote for shitpost periodical Mischmasch. This is the same level of artistic boundary pushing as Absalom, Absalom!" Pound was a hack fraud whose best work was as a talent scout.

There's been a deterioration of poetic knowledge on the part of readers and writers in the 20th century. Interest in prose becomes more and more an identity as distinct from interest in verse among the mass of literary people. Poets like Pound tried to educate the public and revive knowledge of verse but it was only really successful in the isolated field of 'modernist poetry' which has become more and more anathema to the average person because of the accumulated sins of free verse in the hands of mediocre or bad poets.

>>24821931
Very ironic considering the most important modernist prose writer was James Joyce...

>'modernist poetry' which has become more and more anathema to the average person because of the accumulated sins of free verse in the hands of mediocre or bad poets.
Lel you can't expect the average person to be moved by obscure allusions and ideas that they neither have heard of nor care for
>>
>>24822317
That's exactly what people are taught to do when reading Joyce. At any rate, Pound and Eliot and many other free verse poets have written very clear poetry free of allusions.
>>
>>24820686
That's a bad choice, Pound is so lame. Be wise and choose Hart Crane next time.
>>

What thou lovest well remains,
the rest is dross
What thou lov’st well shall not be reft from thee
What thou lov’st well is thy true heritage
Whose world, or mine or theirs
or is it of none?
First came the seen, then thus the palpable
Elysium, though it were in the halls of hell,
What thou lovest well is thy true heritage
What thou lov’st well shall not be reft from thee
“Master thyself, then others shall thee beare”
Pull down thy vanity
Thou art a beaten dog beneath the hail,
A swollen magpie in a fitful sun,
Half black half white
Nor knowst’ou wing from tail
Pull down thy vanity
How mean thy hates
Fostered in falsity,
Pull down thy vanity,
Rathe to destroy, niggard in charity,
Pull down thy vanity,
I say pull down.
