I like the NASB, and the ESV for modern English.J.B. Phillips translated the NT during time spent in bomb shelters during WWII. Easy to read. It's dynamic equivalent, though it is said to be a faithful and well written one.The Tyndale and Wycliffe bibles were the first English translations. They're more useful for historical understanding than biblical study, I would guess.
