About a third of the way through picrel, and it's really quite good. I'm surprised that I haven't seen it mentioned here before. What are you reading for the spooky season, /lit/?
>Dracula by Bram StokerOverall pretty fun, but suffers from some serious pacing issues, and the end was simultaneously drawn out and rushed. The scenes with Renfield were my favorite.>Diary by Chuck PalahniukAnother fun book if you like Palahniuk's writing style (not sure if it classifies as pure horror), but he really rushes the end sequence. I liked the little twist at the very end.>The Exorcist by William Peter BlattyAbout 1/4 of the way through this one and it's alright so far. It seems like a pretty good pace of introducing the critical plot element slowly with the characters being like "Hm, that's a bit odd, must be some reasonable explanation for this", but we'll see how it goes.
I've been focused on spooky and weird fiction shit all spooky season. Currently I'm making my way thru this; I'm on Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath right now and I'm defo enjoying it. The HorrorBabble guy does a great job at narrating it. If I finish Kadath before the 31st I'll try to finish as many of the shorter stories in the volume as possible.
Perfume is obligatory Hallowe'en-core.
>>24826846I like Perfume, it's a very good instance of beauty in profound ugliness. Oftentimes similar stuff is just gross with maybe some thrills and fun intellectualism, but Perfume actually has quite a bit of genuine beauty in it, despite being an extremely ugly and unpleasant book.
>>24826846Kurt Cobain wrote a song about it
>>24826922I know :)
>>24826815Dracula fucking sucks. The only good part is the first section at Dracula's castle. What the fuck is even the point of half the characters? Or those boring diary entries about going on a coast retreat? Victorian writers needed to learn not to meander about so much.
