Just write through your block, they say. What if you can't stop your critical-self even when writing gibberish?

either intense self-examination bordering on flagellation or drugs

stop trying to silence your critical-self, then, and start trying to listen to the inner guy who can spot the interesting, surprising, promising moments buried amid the muck.

Drugs worked for me. After weeks of procastinating I did shrooms and typed 20 A4s in one sitting. Hardly any of that was edited out. Then I repeaded once more for the epilogue and work was was over.

Writers block is the most pathetic made up shit. None of the great writers had 'writers block', unless it's like a once off years long existential crisis thing that they get over and never have to worry about again. But having writers block on and off for your entire life is embarrassing. Did you even learn how to write to begin with? It's a craft, you should know your craft well enough to do it blindfolded.

remember that you can always go for the first option if the drugs lose their punch for a while

Writer's block is a fake syndrome invented by writers who lack a subject.
If you've got nothing to write about, for fuck's sake don't write.

Then maybe you should be an electrician.

i remember when i was like 15 and first learning to code, whenever i got stuck my more skilled friend would say 'maybe coding just isn't for you'. probably the worst 'advice' you can ever give to somebody starting out.

What i usually do is sleep deprive, get hopped up on caffeine and write down skitzobabble for ideas and then when i'm well-rested and aware i pick out what works and what doesn't and structure it. I usually get like a few thousand words of a gibberish nonsense and exteact a couple ideas from that.

A lot of writing is boring work desu. Even prose can be "mathed" out. Illustration is a far more creative task

I've had electrician's block for 25 years. I can't even change a plug anymore.
