Is sincerity completely unrecoverable? Is there any chance that sincerity might ever make a comeback? Or are we doomed to live in perpetual irony and asymptotic post(ad infinitum)-irony?

Any texts on this? And on sincerity in general?

People get more sincere in their 30s and onwards, I think. At least if enough bad things have happened to them.

Real violence.

Hard to be ironic about spilt blood. Not when it's YOUR blood, at least, or the blood of someone you care about.

Pray for war.

I dont think "real" violence would even be able to overcome the all-consuming sinkhole of irony, at least in a broad cultural sense. Maybe at the individual level "real" tragedy (rather than violence) would wake the subject up from the spell of irony-poisoned thought, but even then that might be a momentary experience.

On the bigger, collective cultural level, I see no indication that violence, both at higher and lower levels of abstraction, cannot be perfectly absorbed and difused into the milieu of internet-homogenized ironic and meme-based language. In fact, I would say you tend to notice a flare-up in irony and post-irony in the reactions online when some acts of violence happen, especially political and racial violence targeted towards individuals, such as the Charlie Kirk assassination and Luigi Mangione. Maybe this is a sort of mass coping mechanism, maybe it is a cynical use of weaponized irony by political identity groups.

At the same time, the discourse seems to me to be slightly more sincere and less irony-poisoned with more large-scale, more abstract acts of violence, such as the invasion of Ukraine or the massacring of Palestinians. Even so, even this larger examples of clear violence cannot fully escape irony, it seems to me.

So I wouldnt be sure that violence at any level would be able to bring people back to sincerity, in fact it might be counter productive and breed more irony-poisoned nihilism.

People do this when extreme asymmetry allows them to drone strike from a safe distance
