Did fiction books start using more vocabulary as time went on?I feel like what's complex about reading books from a few centuries ago is the sentence structure and the occasinal old-fashioned vocabulary, but once you get past that and google the few words you don't know about, it's pretty much smooth sailing from here. While it seems to me that at some point during the 19th century people started using very specific vocabulary to describe anything and everything, sometimes using different words for the same thing, and that things kept going that way for a while up until it calmed down some time after WWII
