Very interested in this topic. I've read Bernays "Propaganda" and a bunch about Goebbels and would appreciate some good recommendations on where to go from here. Is Chomsky good?
>>24834077I read this years ago and thought it was interesting and informative if rudimentary. There is also Ellul's Propaganda which I can recommend with some reservation.
This book is not directly related to propaganda but I recommend it because it indirectly explains why mass mind control is more or less necessary in a modern society.

>>24834123I guess I just didn't get out of it what I thought I was going to. I wanted a sort of historical/materialist account of the rise of propaganda and social control and what I got was more of an elaborate description of propaganda as apparatus. I wanted 'why' and mostly got 'what'. It has been years since I read it though.
>>24834077>Is Chomsky good? No, it's the sociological equivalent of pop-sci or pop psychology.
>>24834084This...you got to check it out OP. It's very good even if a little outdated
