No Borges thread ? What a shame !
>>
Really need to reread my copy of The Aleph And Other Stories. I do it about once a year, these days, and it's coming up on time to do it again.
>>
Have you read his works in Spanish?
>>

english is superior to spanish
>>
>reading Boreges
I too remember being 18
>>

I've always wanted to read him but feel it must be in Spanish to truly appreciate, and I don't know Spanish
>>

the language doesn't matter, just read a short compilation (he has about 5 or so good stories). he's a writer for young people. he's no joyce, he's all about ideas, not linguistic innovation.

I read one story of his, the one about the map

You see, I’m a fan of the avant-garde. I like, you know… all that stuff about innovation and so on, the reworking of a culture and the mythologizing of certain places. Though I wonder if this mythologizing of cities happens in order to create a kind of historical remembrance and to point out what the identity of that culture and its people really is.
i really likes his stories:
An artifact that lets you see everything, a library larger than the universe, a man who remembers everything to the point of madness, the true author of Don Quixote, fiction becoming reality and the dreamer being dreamed, The immortal soldier who searches for the fountain of mortality. and a crazy guy with a knife ready to fight to the death.

what? Isn't Borges an ultraist?
>>
>>24834723
Ficciones and the Aleph are mid.
>>24834752
Yes.
>>24834766
That little rant of his was out of context.
>>
>>24835033
he said English is the superior language
>>
>>24836041
No he didn't.

Borges never existed, he was a fictional character invented by Bioy Casares and H. Bustos Domecq

>english is superior to spanish
Lmao
>>
>>24835050
Tell me a word in English that means the same as ‘orondo’
>>
>>24836041
Many people have said this due to English's ability to convey more meaning
>>
>>24834766
this comment was not made in the context of borges having said anything.
this comment was made based on the simple fact that english is superior to spanish.

I wonder why borges didn't write in english.

I think that, beyond how Anglophile he was, Borges admired the Spanish language and genuinely enjoyed searching for words and writing
