I'm almost done with the second volume and it blows my mind that the passages on narrator's infatuation with the girls at the seaside resort were written by a homosexual guy. How did he do it?
>>
>>24837287
To be French is to be a homosexual infatuated with girls
>>
LMFAO On god? High key that crash finna be generational LMAO

He wrote about men but used a woman's name instead of a man's name.
>>

I hope to read it multiple times through, I bought the 4 volume Pléiade edition which is ridiculously overkill

Notes to my edition mention that at least one of the girls borrows some traits from Proust's childhood friend, however they are all too feminine to consider them boys with their genders switched.

Either way, Swann in Love makes it clear that Proust understood women very well and was more than capable of reproducing the mindset of a man who falls in love with one of them. I don't think he'd manage to do it if he simply transposed his homosexual desire. The guy had an almost superhuman gift of discernment.

I read if twice and I can confirm you are bound to get a cordial at best disdain for faggots from reading isolt
>>
>>24837287
For starters young women are treated more as almost amorfous blobs of beauty rather than actual persons with their own beautiful traits to just over
He is a very well spoken horndog in that volume compared to say the way nabokov describes his prepubescent oneitis
Also I'm fairly sure he was into ephebic boys rather than bara males, so the distance in beauty with young girls is shorter

>anon finds out through literature that there is virtually no difference between falling in love with a man or a woman
It was bound to happen I guess
>>
>>24837003
If you think about it gay men must be terrifying to women.
>A man she could never manipulate into doing her bidding or putting her needs first.
The horror.

>empathizing with women

>at the same time
nigga, you gay

I feel really blessed not having any reaction whatsoever to a woman's "charms"
>>
>>24838741
>nigga, you gay
I wish. Actually I wish I was asexual, that would be best.

There is no way this happaned. No one reads the entirety of In Search of Lost Time without looking up the author. It's even on the first section of his wikipedia page.

You cab be homophobic and still enjoy art made by fags. I am and I do

Erm, based?
>>
>>24838732
Nah they love them. They are unthreatening both as romantic pursuers and rivals. A safe avenue to engage with the opposite sex. A girl friend they will never be jealous of, a guy friend that will never fall for them and put them on the spot
In my experience it's fags who tend to be more misogynistic, but I wager that's due more to the fact that homes are generally sociopath rather than them despising women in particular
>>
>my friend is loki
you'd best be careful. hopefully the trick he played on you to get you to come embarrass yourself in this way should teach you not to trust him in the future.
>>
>>24838660
It's a bit more complicated. I think there's a significant difference between Odette and a hypothetical promiscuous homosexual in 19th century France, both psychologically and in the way they acted in social situations. Consequently, descriptions of those people from the perspectives of their lovers are not interchangeable.
>>
>>24837108
Holy fucking based.

Women aren't allowed to be homophobic. Like ??? you are a woman.
>>
>>24837003
I'm homophobic but I have to admit some fags were great authors. They weren't even real fags, exclusive homosexuality wasn't a thing before the 20th century, they were just run of the mill sodomites.

>have read the entirety of In Search of Lost Time three times
Things that didn't happen for 500
