I've been suicidal for a while now. Please recommend me books about the meaning of life. Hard mode: no religion.

>>24840901I don't know if there can be any meaning in life if there is no religion. Best thing I can offer is to cope.Read Cioran (f.e. Trouble with being born, the online interview, hights of despair, etc) and some eastern Taoism shit (f.e. Alan Watts gives you a good feeling, but not really philosophical depth, Laozi, etc).
>>24840901For me, what worked was reading stuff from people I felt "close" with, like Paul Valéry's aphorisms (Tel Quel, not sure if it's translated and how), other neurasthenics like Vsevolod Garchine, or honest, clever people that please me with their way of thinking so much that I'd enjoy talking with them (Montaigne). It also helped reading funny stuff, like my favourite kind of absurd humor (in my french case, comics by Goossens). What helped the most was alleviating the feeling of loneliness. I discovered the feeling of pointlessness was in my case more of a consequence. But also medication, and shooting my prefrontal cortex with repeated magnetic impulsions (RTMS, it's an option when meds don't work as intended). It gets better fren
Watch the man of la Manchester impossible dream and then read and watch peaceful warrior.

>>24840901Hi anon, I'm sorry you're going through times, I hope things will get better. If you want a bit of philosophy, I would say the Phaedo, the Phaedrus and the Symposium from Plato are books about "meaning" that could cheer you up.Otherwise, if you want to go through fiction, Bolano is an author that gave me a lot of courage as I faced hard times. I would suggest starting with Amulet, which is a beautiful short novel by him. Then Distant star, Nazi Literature in the Americas, the Spirit of Science Fiction: they were all nice. Savage Detective was the one that really did the trick and changed my perspective on things, but it might take a bit of patience to get there. It's a great book though.Otherwise, during the pandemic Krasznahorkai was of help. War and War in particular is a novel about salvation and the search for meaning, it gave me a lot of strength during hard times. Another beautiful one is Seiobo There Below, which is about how aesthetic contemplation builds meaning. >>24840944Also what this anon says - Cioran in particular can work by doing the opposite, that is, it's nihilistic that it somehow bounces back.
>>24840901The obvious prescription is existentialism Lucky for you you get to read KierkDon't worry though it won't work
