I need an electornic word processor that>cannot EVER connect to the internet>can manage, import, and export text files via usb>has little to no other functionThere's too much shit on my laptop to distract me from writing. I realize there's pen and paper but I don't want to have to rewrite everything I've already written. Any recommendations?
rip out the network card and run a terminal only linux distro, use VIM
find any old windows laptop, rip out network card, and install a pirated copy of microsoft word
>>24841672This. Doubt that it's that expensive to do so either.
>>24841594Is Libreoffice not suffice?
>>24841897I don't mean word processing software, I mean a machine or device that is a word processor or has word processing capability.
>>24842003Yes and my question is is Libreoffice not suffice?
>>24841594install gentoo
>>24841897tbqh no it kinda sucks
I like Ghostwriter, only downside is it displays your stats for each writing session. It's like it wants to rub it in my face that I've been "writing" for 8 hours and I've barely gotten 500 words down.

I’m sure you can get that digital typewriter thing used on eBay at this point, it’s been out for enough time and all writers are failures who give up
>install a bare-bones linux distro alongside your main OS >tty only, no GUI whatsoever>install vim, emacs, wordgrinder, or whatever else you want to write with>install a dictionary >change the terminal font face, and size to be more readable>install something that allows you to sync your files to google drive, dropbox, mega, etc>install something like a w3m, or wikipedia2text for researching on the fly>maybe install cmus, or something so you can listen to music while you write, if that's your thingIt only takes minor effort to set up a dual-boot system like this, with a tty only linux distro alongside your main Linux, Mac or Windows OS. When I boot into my "writing system" I literally have to restart my computer if I want to boot into my main OS to do any web browsing or whatever. The real learning curve is learning the ins and outs of your new text editor. WordGrinder is probably the easiest, and doesn't require any customization. It's an actual word processor for the terminal, not a text editor. It's pretty much a linux version of WordStar, the old school DOS processor that that faggot in the silly hat uses. George R Martin or whatever his name is. Vim and Emacs are much more powerful, but there's a steep learning curve, and you'll need to customize the environment to make it more suitable for prose writing. I use Debian, and I think it's probably the most suitable distribution for this purpose. Picrel I some random's terminal rice, for an example of what can be accomplished without a graphical interface.

>>24842003you'll pay out the ass for that.you can turn any $20 old laptop into a dedicated writing environment fairly simply, if you;'re not retarded and know how to read and use a search engine.

>>24842411I'll explain, my retarded friend.OP said his problem was one of discipline and willpower. He's too easily distracted. He wants a device that has nothing else but a writing environment so that he won't have the temptation to check email, or browse 4chan.The software you suggested runs alongside email clients and web browsers, and disabling network connectivity is easily reversed. Therefore your suggestion is stupid and you're a faggot.Hope this helps.

I have another old laptop that I have literally only been able get puppy linux to run on so if theirs good software for it please let me know.
>>24842583This isn't high school anon, hiding behind insults will not work. You are a failed writer. Make something of yourself as a man first.
do you niggas really do 8 hour writing sessions? jesus christ if i could get off the drugs and write that much id have both these novels done and a book deal by now

>>24841594I had a friend in college that always said he was super into hiking and camping, but despite this being in Maine he never actually wentIt turned out he was actually really into the idea of camping. He liked researching spots, reading about and buying the latest gear, fantasizing about it. He'd spend hours arguing online about carabiner fail rates. His "next trip out" was always coming just after the next piece of gear arrived, and no earlier.Anon, the point is this: your request is very stupid. A 10yo child can think of a dozen ways to take an existing computer setup and get it exactly to how you'd want it.But you're not looking for that, are you? You want a piece of gear. You're looking for a product around $1,000 with a name like Cogitate that looks like a 2012 Macbook Pro crossed with a typewriter. You're struggling to do any work and you've identified this as the solution, that once you own it all your problems solve themselves and you're a writer. That's not how it works. Your problems don't exist. Said a better way, the problem is inside your head, and trying to map it onto something external so that you can purchase the fix for it is a trap.If you just like the idea of writing instead of being a writer, fine. Purchase the Cogitate. However, if you really want to solve your problem you need to look inside and go from there.
