This one would be understandably quite upsetting.

THE ALL CAPS make it extra boomer but somehow it’s at least honest about not getting any of it. The man wanted his safari story and it wasn’t one. Fair enough.
>>24843791
Shit like this leaking IDpol brain stew into her “I didn’t get it” review is just atrocious.

I try to be honest about not getting a book up front writing reviews. I went through some classics in “spiritual” books - Ishmael, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, The Alchemist, and I don’t connect with it at all. The points seem tortured, vague handwaving “can’t we all get along, your purpose is right where you left it man, dude nature is rad and shouldn’t be destroyed” type stuff. But clearly lots of people love it and it’s the most important books they’ve read.

If he converted to Christianity, improved his personality, got a cute dog and a nice girlfriend he would be much happier and his philosophy much better.

It seems like it comes down to either anger issues about being confronted with being not as intelligent as you'd wish or a complete lack of curiosity about characters that are not Mary Sue

No, I don't think his philosophy would have been better if he were happier.

One is first of the opinion the father failed to "ensure order". After the father's rebuke, his son, however, began to address him more formally. Clearly, some order was ensured.

Classic case of a female author striving to look more intelligent than she is.

It's not uncommon in English lit courses nowadays to study only certain chapters in Ulysses. It seems very likely that she only read these for university.

You ever encounter a person and think to yourself:

"Holy shit, you're actually real. I thought people like you only existed in twitter memes, but no. You're a living, breathing parody."

I will forgive every single one of these if they had to read something for school... Being forced is no fun but if they chose a classic because they wanted to make themselves seem more intelligent, then their lack of enjoyment becomes mine

World and Will as Representation… how succinct!

The World as Will and Representation*
Didn’t want you fags searching for the wrong book on account of my retardation now did I?
>>
>>24844459
I don't understand how people are even allowed to do this. Not only is this not a review of the book, she explicitly states that she hasn't read the book she's rating. Why doesn't the site delete her review? Is the userbase allowed to get away with being faggots because the owners are also faggots?
>>
>>24844480
Goodreads consists mostly of faggot midwits… no, that’s too kind, retards. Here, take a look at their favourites

>>24844490
It's not just Goodreads, people who rate books and movies etc. on numerical scales are midwits no matter where they post. The social media profile aspect is pathetic and the idea that everything is either good or bad or on a scale between those ... People make me wanna kms

As a mysticism appreciator I don't think this is so bad. These types of texts are supposed to induce an "aha" moment around the truth, namely non-dualism, but it has not made much contribution towards humanity. Science, rationalism and industrialisation has accelerated humanity to heights that none of these easterners could ever have done.
This is what happened in those societies; The priest caste engaged in meditation, so potent that they neglected the rest of the world. The people around them died at the age of 20 from dysentary and not once did these guys ever thinkg "hmm maybe we should be a part of society instead of escaping via mystical practises"
>>
>>24844603
He's right though. Movie, music, and book review sites have been flooded with retard zoomers who make """reviews""" 1 sentence long, and then plug their instagram. And these aren't niche cases, these are the most popular users. You have to scroll for like 2 straight pages on any popular movie review section on Letterboxd before you'll find an actual review.
>>
>>24844248
Having a girlfriend is not sinful. Are you some hardcore Calvinist or something?
>>
>>24844392
He’s correct though.
These texts don’t work without a master there to beat the neophytes for struggling.
>>
>my opinion is irrelevant, i will post it anyway

>>24844705
Yes, the daodejing isn't meant to be read like a novel or aphorisms, but it's part of a spiritual practice. It's not a good read and if they're in a book club and just reading the ddj page by page, I think that's a really funny image

It's easy to pick these for hate-reading purposes but I prefer the oddball / appealing ones. Maggie is probably a fine person and she needs to cheer up. It's perfectly possible to live a happy and productive life without enjoying Waiting For Godot.
>>
>>24844879
No, she doesn't, though she is very accurately repeating an argument that many scholars made throughout the 90s and 00s, so it's by no means coming out of the blue.
>>
>>24844907
Yea the oddball ones are the best

I don't even know what this person is saying or what Hegel said but a slave is a slave because he is a slave, otherwise he would be free. I mean, didn't negroes have better lives in a materially abundant society like America even as slaves than in bumfuck fucking Africa?

That’s very strange. In my course on Joyce we read all of Dubliners, Portrait, and Ulysses. I don’t see much value in only reading a couple of chapters and then moving on to something else.
