What a boring read. Endless listing of the designer clothes he, or other people are wearing. Wow.
>>
>>24844033
It was so fucking funny. The clothes and gadgets and brand names are the shallow lenses through which he views and makes sense of the world. When he encounters people like a cashier, or a homeless man, or a baby not wearing designer clothes and he loses his mind, it's so funny. I don't like playing the "you just didn't get it" card but maybe you just didn't get it.

When you become older and work in office spaces you can relate extremely well to it. You will be surprised how much people are into this shit.
>>
stick to ASoIaF faggot
>>
>>24844033
You just got tricked into reading a poorly written book about an insecure faggot who watches liveleak all day and has tiktok tell him how to dress HAHAHA let’s all laugh at OP!
>>
>>24844033
what a dull post. you've noticed and pointed out the most obvious surface quality of a book. wow.
>>
no, it's SUPPOSED to be shit!

>filtered

Reminded me of Joyce and TS Eliot postmodern knock offs who cram literary references into every sentence to show off how well read and smart they are but about the most shallow thing possible. And I loved it.
>>
>>24844033
It's to build atmosphere and get you immersed. You got filtered.

>Ah yes, monsiuer, this current tumultuous mental conflict we have found ourselves in is tantamount to the final conflict between Harry and Voldemort
Genius…

Does anybody else think that the consumerism in American Psycho was inspired by that one chapter in The Picture of Dorian Gray where it describes all the things he has in his house? People don't seem to mention that for some reason.
>>
>>24844040
this, it's easily the funniest book i've ever read

Literary fiction is all about shoehorning points and commentary into a world you made up. Give BEE a break; he's following in the tradition of the greats

superior BEE novel cuming through

don't forget the two chapters where bateman rants about music
>>
The scene where he makes his date read his writing is 10/10

What is this filtered thing I read about? Is it like a high-IQ filter? Like if you got filtered, it filtered you out because you're dumb?
>>
>>24844986
Imagine being filtered by the filtered meme.

Says himself if you don't skip them you're crazier than Bateman-- it's satire. And everyone around Bateman are after a fashion even more unhinged than the serial killer. People like this exist and they have millions of followers and views on TikTok brainrotting each other to death.

yeah, to not be up to the task / not good enough in some sense. typically not smart or disciplined enough for literature. not skilled enough for gaming.
>>
>>24844986
If you don't like any acclaimed piece of writing pseuds call you filtered meaning you weren't smart enough to get it or understand it. It's a soulless outlook in which art is equated to an IQ test, missing the point of art entirely and ironically revealing their own ineptitude
>>
>>24844033
I make a Bateman reference in my novel. Tell me if it's cringe.
>>
>>24844033
The protagonist is gay. That's why he's so obsessed with clothes and skincare regimens and looking good naked.
Thought it was pretty funny and that was before I figured out the joke was intentional. But not everything is for everyone.
Maybe you'd prefer the Red Dwarf novels. They cover events and characters similar to the show, but with more depth and gravity.
The King in Yellow is also a laugh. Everybody freaking out over this book that drives people crazy, but it's just a book, they're all crazy already because of their fucked up society. Major inspiration for Lovecraft's Cthulhu Comedies, I'm told.
>>
>>24845172
it's cringe if a person who only watched the movie will still recognise the reference
>>
>>24845205
Thought the movie was a great adaptation. Really sold Bateman's delusional state and total lack of self-awareness in a way only a masterfully cast film could. Like, you're looking at Christian Bale being all handsome and muscular and charming, because that's how he thinks he looks and comes across, but everybody in his life keeps mixing him up with Jared Leto's character, because that weird-looking creep is how he actually looks and comes across. The book didn't really sell that angle as well, not sure prose can even be used like that without ruining the joke by overselling it. But the movie? Very clear, just subtle enough that idiots who miss the point become subsequent punchlines, like Leto did walking around thinking he actually looks like Bale to this day.
>>
>>24844033
That's the point retard
>>
>>24844033
He's not trying to dazzle you with intellect. It's like hanging out with the weird uncle nobody in the family talks to because they're not sure if he's gay or not for a weekend and doing just enough drugs to keep things interesting.
>>
>>24845269
and if he's gay they would have to stone him?
>>
>>24845425
No. You'd actually get into Dorsia and then maybe get stoned afterwards.
