Shockingly mid.
I get why the famous scenes became notorious, but honestly this is just a weak attempt at writing a romance book in the vein of the Alexander Romance.
Add to it that it ends barely a third way in, it’s understandable why it is rarely read.

I still think it’s worth reading if you are genuinely into romance literature and history, but don’t expect your new favorite work. His latin is very tedious btw. It’s like Cicero without the rhetoric and in long descriptive prose.
