>yankee born, irish catholic by blood
>wealthy lawyers son, grew up in a large house and went to an upstanding high school
>degree in liberal arts at a good college
>urbanite who never experienced violence in his life
>proto woke (see suttree)
>chose to larp as a poor southern hillbilly

He does make up a few words, usually by sticking two words together. He also resurrects archaisms. But he doesn't overdo it all that much.
If you're feeling overwhelmed after the first five pages — just stick with it. It cools down pretty quickly. Most of it is not that bad.

>he wasnt a real southerner
>he was educated and powerfully driven
So he was superior to, got it.

Southerners can't be rich or educated?

>proto woke (see suttree)
The book with a character simply named "Nigger"

His only real larp was that he had never ridden a horse before.

I'll always laugh at Suttree refusing to call the transvestite anything other than "John"

Literally me

kek I hate it too

I recently finished this book and enjoyed it quite a bit. The vocabulary was pretty wild though, almost Blood Meridian levels of "what the fuck does that mean?".

how mindfucked by contemporary "culture wars" buzzwords do you have to be to call suttree "proto-woke"?

I'd say 7 or 8 out of 10 on the internet brainrot scale of mindfuckery.
