>>24850700I think they can be, if they’re high quality enough. Keep in mind much ancient poetry was meant to be set to song, or sung/recited musically, like the Iliad and Odyssey. Bardic traditions. In fact that’s commonly held to be the roots of human poetry by anthropologists and scholars, namely in song.Typically though, the best rap is symbiotic with its beats, the background music or even accompanying instrumentation, and often doesn’t pass for very great poetry when the lyrics are taken apart from the song and read as a poem. I’d be happy to hear of exceptions but I think this applies to a lot of rap.
