I'm 60 pages in, when does it get good? So far it's a book about a woman being a woman. Please tell me it changes, I hate women.
>>24853432Kek me too anon. 80 pages in and they're just yapping over some roastie. The only good part so far was when the paki calls the roastie academic a whore and the men beat the paki nearly to death. I don't hate women but there's something extremely disgusting about an academic roastie who puts hedomism before anything and will destory a solid friendship group for quick sex. Although I am excited to see how it unfolds. FYI Bolano was a massive commie so expect some commiewank, but I'm personally excited to see how the book develops.
>>24853432All the women characters in the book are whores, except for one. Lots of cucking. The prose and intrigue is worth it though.
The Part About Archimboldi >>>> The Part About the Critics > The Part About Fate > The Part About the Crimes >>>>> The Part About Amalfitano
>>24853432If you’re a misogynist I don’t think this is the book you might like to read. Bolaño is obsessed about the vulnerability of the female body as a sign of social deterrence and that’s a recurrent theme in his work.
Finished it today. An anon in another 2666 thread said that the final part was beautiful enough to justify the rest of the (good, but not exceptional) book. Yeah man, you were right.
>>24853540u crazycrimes is lastfate + amalfitano are 2 close 2 callcritics is barely a cut above the crimesBut yeah Archimboldi is ichiban
>>24853432>>24853494That’s basically the whole book. Enjoy!
>>24853540No.The part about the crimes > The part about the critics >>> The part about amalfitano > The part about fate > The part about Archimboldi>>24853567Honestly, I think it works even if you are a misogynist
>>24853494We got got. Good one, glowies.>>24853522The prose, maybe, but what's the intrigue? I don't see what's intriguing by a group of 4 academic friends glazing a german author until he's soggy.>>24853759I heard one anon said the ending to the "Sea of Fertility" being a punch in the gut, but I didn't feel the same; still worth reading, however, I wonder if this situation will be the reverse.>>24853759>>24853803I'll stick with it for now but I'll probably just borrow the audiobook and put it on 3x while my eyes glances over the words.
>>24853540Achimboldi > Amalfitano >>>> Crimes > Critics > Fate
>>24853432Once you get to the part about the crimes though that particular section can get a little repetitive.
>>24854426>The prose, maybe, but what's the intrigue? I don't see what's intriguing by a group of 4 academic friends glazing a german author until he's soggy. You're not curious about the identity of Archimboldi? There's also the mystery surrounding the part about the crimes, which comes later. Honestly, the crescendo of horniness and cucking exploding into violence at the cab driver in the Critics was masterful IMO. Some people just hate that chapter though.
>>24853494>commieAhh so its a waste of time.
>>24853540I read till Fate and have started Crimes 3 times now, but stopped 40 pages in. Critics was a masterpiece for me, Amalfitano was very great, Fate was great but slightly less (except the ending, which was very intriguing). I see many people love Archimboldi (to be expected), but what would you say about the crimes, I read somewhere that it's purposefully tedious.
Read this book years ago and loved ittook me quite a long time to finish tho
