Anything I need to know before I read?
>>24854603It was written a really long time ago
>>248546032/10 at best unless you force yourself to find it funny.
>>24854603It's good up until the brown mountain. I stopped thereSo at least a good 200 pages are funny at the start
>>24854603It's a crude and cruel old book.

>>24854603It is not supposed to be funny, its a tragedy.
>>24854603It's good and it's important and you should definitely read it but it's definitely not going to be as good as everyone has told you it's going to be and are thinking it's going to be in your head.
reading all these replies... what happened to this board?
It's a slow read, don't expect it to be constant tilting at windmills and whatever.
>>24854603>Anything I need to knowJust fucking read the book you monumental retard. Good christ. Why can't you people just actually engage with something without a primer first.
Grossman translation has fluid and engaging prose.
>>24854603it's too damn long and not interesting enough to justify the length
Get ready for the suken cost fallacy. I hope you've got a lot of patience. You're not gonna have much "fun" past a certain point.I personally hate it tbf. It's aged terribly.
>>24854761Indians and jews have become the vast majority of this site's user base. All they ever read is epics of dudes riding across a rope swing over a poop gorge, while he's on his way to rape someonesee (any bahubali movie)
Is it a pretty straightforward read or is it closer to Tristam Shandy?
>>24854761It's been like this for a while. I don't think anyone who comes here now actually reads, just like nobody who goes to /fit/ nowadays actually lifts.
>>24855363can confirm, i started coming to /lit/ recently and i can't read due to severe OCD, i get stuck reading the same chapter 1000 times and never make any progressi guess you could say i came from /v/ since that was my main board before coming here

>>24855446American board buddy, you're wasting your time here
>>24855363I do and shall be the last dual /fit/izen and /lit/izen.>>24855393>God, reading is such a waste of fucking time. People dont want to admit its for vain purposes. The same as wearing makeup for womensilly
>>24854603He references lots of chivalry literature of its time. It isn't necessary to read them, but make sure to have an annotated version. It has some of arthurian legend and also lots of general literature (Greekroman mythology, christianity, I can't remember if it had nordic myth). So yea, Homer, Virgil, and Ovid should help you understand some references but as I've said before, you can just stick to the footnotes. Try to read it with a blank mind, without preconceived ideas. The message is not only pretty simple but also directly said multiple times through volume 1. >>24854712I only felt bad for Quijote once, the first time he fell from his horse. Most of the book is written as a comedy.
