Dream Story (German: Traumnovelle) by Arthur Schnitzler. The book eyes wide shut is based on.
It's half dream, half awake, but you don't know which of the two halves. Either he dreamed or she did.
You should read it in German. People who can't read German are proleterians. And poor people are lesser beings. Read it in German.
