>when a catholic does worldbuilding: GOOD>when a mormon does worldbuilding: BAD
>>24884921Worldbuilding is for sweaty virgins. Real fantasy writers just toss whatever shit into their world that they want and find a way to justify it on the fly.
>>24884921It is interesting that Catholics and Orthodox tend to be more gifted writers.
>>24884921Both are shit, but Tolkien's worldbuilding was to invoke the myths he spent his whole lifetime reading and studying.Sanderson's worldbuilding is because it's a checklist.
>worldbuilding >Tolkien Tolkien wrote stories which resonated throughout his world with recurring themes. The geography of Middle Earth or the history of it's kingdoms are irrelevant save their service to the story and it's intended meaning Sanderson comes from the school of writers with nothing to say and only ideas of an imagined world to distract the reader with memorisation
>>24885031messages are for losers, sometimes a book is just a book.
>rectangular mountain ranges
>>24885062Several of them in europe
>>24884921tolkien worldbuilding informes the themes of the novels, Sanderson's doesn't
>>24884921When a mormon does fantasy worldbuilding he gets 31,676 congregations globally
>guy on left: don't care, not even live action movies can make that boring shit interesting>guy on right: read one chapter of the anime fire breathing, wall running slop and dropped
>>24885062
>>24884921Branderson is the one author whose work I think best encompasses the term "slop"
>>24885461Yet he's the best and most wide read fantasy author today. What the fuck has /lit/ produced? Webnovel litrpgs with status screens. Romantasy dog fucking is less embarrassing. Hurr durr. I got +5 charm, now I can finally talk to the cat girl because my skill check beats her lock.
>>24884936Milton mogs sadly
>>24885031>Sanderson comes from the school of writers with nothing to say and only ideas of an imagined world to distract the reader with memorisationTolkien is kind of like that too. Characters are one-note and the story is pretty straight forward, he very much began by thinking the language then the places and then characters to speak those languages and explore those places.
>>24886187yea like how india has the highest population and mcdonalds has the most customers, Sanjeet
>>24884921Catholicism may be retarded, but Mormonism is fucking retard. Also that bloke is fat and looks like a total nerdburger. Guaranteed shit writer.
>>24885057Jesus. And you're on a literature board?
>>24887346brown "people" can't comprehend metaphors and allegories. They can barely even figure out that trains can be wider than its tracks
>>24887346A book without a message can still be good, a book with only a message is always terrible
>>24887358https://www.reddit.com/r/im14andthisisdeep
>>24885057The word "message" didn't appear anywhere in the post you quoted.>the story and it's[sic] intended meaningVery different from "message." "Intended meaning" is broad and core to the craft of storytelling while "message" is critfag term more closely associated with "lesson" or "argument." Animal Farm's message is that communism blows, Candide's message is to cultivate your garden. LOTR doesn't have a "message" like that, it has themes.
>>24885321kek'd
>>24884921I don't respect either author or their fanbases.
>>24885031Tolkien create his elven languages and cultures first, then he create the middle earth to be a place where those could exist, he only decide to use it to write a mythological style epic to be the English Kalevala after he already made the whole world, cultures and mythology
