>>24887594I need to read this. I'm a sucker for angels and demons.
>>24887594Not canon. Heretical nonsense
>>24887594Fuck off Toe Rogan
>>24889160The Epistle of Jude quotes it as Scripture though.
>>24889175oh, WELL, that makes it canon!
>>24887594The best part? When the dude gets abducted by an UFO
>>24889160How does one determine canonicity? Is there something more to it than just humans deciding one text is good and another not?
>>24889175It's canon in the Ethiopian Orthodox church IIRC.
>>24889893Well the canon of what we know as the old testament was already a thing by the time of Jesus, and then what we know as New testament was established according to tradition and theological investigation and a lot of discussions and fighting against heretics, this would be in the first 3 to 4 centuries, since they were the very successors of the apostles we know for a fact that they had the holy spirit to guide them, if you don't believe in that then you could try to rationalize that since they had authority and deep knowledge of the things that happened in the time of Jesus then it's was "easier" to discard those weird heretic books that also started to appear en the first 3 to 4 centuries. And believe if you try to look into the canonization of books in other religions you WONT find this kind of order, wisdom and spirituality to back up what's Canon and what's not like the orthodox christian church (the church fathers).
>>24889938Okay so basically a bunch of dudes making shit up. Good to know.
>>24889938>they kept the books that would help them grow the power of the church which by sheer coincidence also grew their own power and wealth and excised the rest where jesus said things like you dont need a church to worship mePure coincidence I'm sure.
>>24890736It turned out the protoorthodox were right though. The only extracanon book that might have bypassed the hierarchy is Thomas and that's probably post-Matthew.Oddly you know two books with more claim to antiquity? 1 Clement to the Corinthians, and the Gospel of Peter. 1 Clement argues for Rome's primary against the Greek homos, and Peter obviously supports the primacy of Saint Peter.
The stuff in Enoch where Enoch goes to heaven are probably of comparatively recent vintage and are rightly excluded from canon, but I think the Flood stuff is derived from older sources going back to the Babylonian exile and is more or less legit.
>>24890724>>24890736Literally retards with zero historical and theological comprehension. Nothing like protestants or secular fags to tell actual christians their theology and what to do or how to behave, "what would jesus doooo? Uhh duuuh the power of the church huuuh just a couple of guys making shit up we are monkeys bro". You really need to start reading or get the fuck out of /lit/
>>24890986Delicious tradlarp seethe.
>>24890992Ah yes everyone I dont agree with its a larper only I hold truth conviction to my character and beliefs yes that must be it im smart very I have an HR course certification and play valorant ironically The worse thing is that in my firts post I was giving a neutral actual response to where the canon comes from, even if you dont agree with the religion or the church, but alas, this site is now for memes, zoomers, zoomer fags and propaganda I guess
>>24891001>tradlarper continues to throw a fit and embarrass himselfMore please.
>>24889938Have you read books by Michael S. Heiser and Fr. Steven De Young?
>>24890986If you can show how it isn't just people making stuff up I'll gladly read whatever you suggest.
