Generally speaking, how far do you personally get into a book before you decide to drop it?
I just read through them. I’m really struggling with Gravity’s Rainbow but be as it may I want to finish it before calling it a piece of shit.
I've finished every book that I read past the first 10 pages. I either drop very early or get tho the end.
>>24903160That's what sucks sometimes. Some books can be a slog to get through but the ending more than makes up for it.
>>24903142>The badass female heroine introduced who constantly challenges the MC (self insert) written by and for someone who learned social ques from sitcoms>biblical or christian undertones>projecting a sense of modernism on the ancient world or some setting in the past/fantasy>author is lazy or unable to describe a key part of the story that has reached a dead end : "When the x opened its mouth and told the truth...everybody who listened went mad..."Garbage.
Stop reading when the enjoyment value (E) has a negative slope for several checkpoints in a row and your total misery (M) so far is greater than your estimated remaining enjoyment (R) [that is, when M > R] Recalculate E and M every few pages. If the misery curve keeps increasing while the enjoyment curve is basically flat, your internal heuristical quasi-algorithm should output: ABANDON. If you’re already past 80 percent, boundary conditions force you to finish no matter what.
>>24903166Its the opposite for me. The start is great, but the ending really makes me regret continuing.

>>24903182You (mostly) just described the genius of contemporary female writing talent
>>24903183I love autists so much
>>24903142I can usually tell pretty early, but give it a day or two. If the book remains on my mind, I keep reading, and if it doesn't, I drop it.
