it's that time of year /lit/. have you achieved your goals in 2025, or are you suffering the agony of humiliating failure?
I read 6 7 books so it's pretty goodFaustBible (like half)History of Russia , francePrinceMetaphysics Aristotle (half)Pius X (half)Divine office 2.5 monthsBeyond good and evilQuite a few audiobooksStarted a few other books read some encyclicalsW
I usually aim for 50 books a year. Looks like I'll probably hit around 46 this year, though I've made it the past four years. That said, I think I will drastically reduce the goal next year. I think it's encouraged me to read shorter, simpler books, and I've been avoiding texts that would take a longer time to really work through.
>>24926088Nothing earth shattering but it's worth noting that one of the books I read was 2666
What site is this? was just about to make a thread asking how you all kept track of what books you'd readt. booklet who just got back into reading recently
>>24926108Most people use Goodreads. If you hate Amazon try Storygraph. There are a few other sites out there, but those are definitely the most popular.
I say mine's pretty good. Finishing the year with four more plays from Shakespeare and In Search of Lost Time, currently at the start of The Fugitive, will be nice.
>>24926088erm, the year isn't over yet, i've still got time
>>2492608821/15 so farmy 25th will be A Christmas Carole as per tradition. I am currently reading Bacchae and other plays so I only need to read a few more after that.
>>24926088Got a lot of good reading done this year. Best was In Our Image and Likeness: Humanity and Divinity in Italian Humanist Thought.
>>24926088fuck
I fell short this year. Need to cut out wasting time on social media garbage.
I leik 2 read
>>24926088i didmy goal was p small, 12 books this year and 15 short stories over a two month period so in total i read 19 books (and i'm about to finish blood meridian and neil postman's amusing ourselves to death, so if all goes well i'll have read 21 books)for short stories i read 95 short stories with no limitation on genre but generally horror-oriented my favorite author this year for short stories was ryunosuke akutagawa and i'm waiting until the end of december to rank the novels i read but i very much enjoyed one flew over the cuckoo's nest, a confederacy of dunces, and house of leaves
>>24926671clarifying: the goal was 15 short stories in a two month period resetting in the next two month periodyou get it or w/e i focused short stories because i really like writing short stories and wanted a pool to analyze
>>24926088About to be done but my back is killing me so I will have to finish later. On the last chapter of the final book.
>>24926824Forgot to attach image.
>>24926088I read 86 books this year. 4 of them were rereads (Iliad, Lust Caution, Basil, Chance), 24 were non-fiction. I didn't set a goal, but it was my second best year since taking reading seriously in 2020. NEET btw
>>24926826And done!
I went into a faggy depressive spell for a couple months and couldn't focus enough to read.
>>24926088I try not to think about it and do my best to fix my rotten internet brain before it's all too late.
>>24926088Umm, we don't read books on this here board. Therefore, I haven't finished a single book this year.
I'm not going to make it, go on without me.
>>24926088My year in books
I'm at like 30, with one bigger book (IJ) in there. Could be higher, but it's been good for habit-building. Probably ending the year around 32-34.
Wow I feel pretty good having only read six books this year when I had no goalsSpend all my time reading scientific literature at work so reading isn't as relaxing as I wish it wereGives me hope that next year I can really get back into it
This is the second (non-consecutive) year out of the past 7 that I have not read 80+ books. So I am suffering the agony of humiliating failure.
>>24926088Once you've read enough of the canon, reading just 1 book has a 10x multiplier because of all the connection and subtle references you can now pick up on. By this metric I've read over 60 books easily this year
I did it.I only read 12 last year.
>>24927376t. guy who hasn't read enough of the canon
pitiful numbers, I thought you faggots enjoyed reading
>>24927542Even just a few years ago people used to read way more books. Tiktok has destroyed /lit/.
>>24926088I have finished Brothers KaramazovovsAnd I have read Myth of Sisyphus, Gnostics, Nordic Myths, Robinson Crusoe (reread), Scarlet Letter, Night Train to Stars, Endless Night, Pale Horse, and Third Girl. And I am currently reading (almost done with) Last Murder at the End of the World. Plus, quite a few manga. I might finish one more book after that.

Not too bad
>>24927565holy cope
the average respondent to this thread read 22.6 books this year. is that enough to qualify as a "book lover"? Discuss.
About the usual.
>>24928651favorites this year?
>>24928647A book lover only needs one book their whole life. This thread is full of book sluts.
I aimed to read 40 books this year and read 42, and several of them were authors new to me that I came to love - JG Ballard, Robert Aickman, PKD, William Gibson, John Gray
>>24926088>it's that time of year
>>24926093>Bible (like half)thats like 33 books in itself
I need to read more, this is pathetic. The books I read weren't even complicated or anything I've just been a lazy piece of shit who wastes all his time playing dogshit video games.
just stopped using my phone at the start of the year. i read about 2-3h per day. longest book was “and quiet flows the don”
>>24926108I use an excel speadsheet. It just works
>>24926088I feel like i fucked this year up and I still read 50, including some giants like Gravitys Rainbow and Infinite Jest. How the fuck are you idiots only reading 10 books?
>>2492608830/52 I had a good time.
>>24928657biblecringe
>>24929447what if i read on my phone anon?
>>24926088I never set up any challenges or anything on goodreads. Just read what ever I like, whenever I like. This is what I've read this year, although i also read something like 675 pages of 2666, but had to stop due to irl stuff. I'm taking a break now, and hopefully I get to finish it.
>>24929613How's the "Amusing Ourselves to Death" book?
>>24926088I wanted to read 10 books this year but only managed 2. It's not as if I don't have the time or energy, but I just don't know what to read.So far:Count of Monte CristoShadow of the WindI realize I need adventurous books.
>>24929638You know what, didn't like it. It gets great reviews and gets called prophetic all the time, but I just didn't care for it. Its been a while since I've read it so I can't give you a substantial review.
>>24926088I don't think I can do it this year. And I won't change what I read just to complete a "challenge". I could've done it if I counted the divine comedy as 3 different books, but I'm a real nigga.
>>24926088I surprised even myself.
>>24926088
>>24929673you might enjoy don quixote or musashi
This is the most ive read in a year by a lot. I attribute it to increasing my reading time by 50% a day. who wouldve thought
Getting a reading tablet really accelerated my reading this year. Last year I read 89 total. And before I get a response like >>24927565my average book length is 248 pages.
I didn't really set a goal for myself beyond the bare minimum of reading at least one book a month. Ended up with 42 books in total for this (counted A Series of Unfortunate Events as 4 books instead of 13 because they are pretty short)
16/26it's overI will lower my goal next year
what app/site is this?
These are all the books I purchased second hand this year. So this is my 2026 list. Granted, I can immediately tell that some of these are going to be way better than the others.
