Just finished pic related. Really well done but I'm a little lost as to the connection between the two timelines. Vollmann himself says the rifles had no connection to the 1990s storyline so I'm wondering what connection he saw otherwise.Are the rifles meant to be symbolic (phallic for the 90s timeline)? The timelines mirror each other; Franklin came to the Natives with (seemingly) good intentions until ignoring or disrespecting them/their culture and Subzero does the same, not to mention the relocation having the same 'good intention' at first glance so maybe that's it?
