Should novelists be interested in the torture room because it is a place where human imagination is sent to its limitless potential?

No. People shouldn't waste their time ruminating on the negative extremes of the human experience. Yes, we all know anyone can serve as a torturer given the "right" (wrong) circumstances and experiences, yes this is a disgusting fact about human nature, yes it happens all the time in many countries (if not all in some form), both where the torture is actively legal, and where it is not, and where it falls into the category mentioned in your picrel. What is there to be gained in writing about it? For the cheap pornographic value? To horrify? To educate? Most likely the first, merely to titilate the morbidly curious or sadomasochistic reader. There is nothing interesting about it really, it's just an ugly thing that is better off left unwritten about, unless you are striving to eliminate torture from the world through some kind of charity or nonprofit organisation.

>the limitless human creativity shows itself in sadism
This point has been made and repeated a lot. But like the other anon said, it’s a pointless thing that doesn’t serve anyone. Creativity also shows itself in love. Think of a dad building an intricate and beautiful treehouse for his children. Hell, it can even show itself in the most mundane and morally uninteresting ways. If you want to analyze the torturous nature of people, that’s fine. But there’s no point tying it directly to creativity, because generally speaking people build and nourish more than what they outright destroy.

Watch the Passion of Joan of Arc, then the movie Martyrs, to understand what purpose it serves. The relationship between the mind (or soul) and pain, is really pivotal to understanding what makes us human or what makes some humans nobler than others

Both forms of creativity are about exercising power. The feeling of power in these acts of love is feeling the other person is dependent upon us for them.

It's the reverse, true love is giving your kids freedom and creativity to grow without you. It's the 'death by motherly affection' type parents that's a false love.

Jack off before posting. Guro fantasy is not a philosophy.

Yes.

The reason you prize their freedom and creativity above those of other kids is because it is an extension of your power and influence. The more powerful they are, the more pleasure you feel

Waiting for the barbarians is so fucking good please read it if you havent

But I don't want to read a story about a dad building a treehouse. I want to read a story about a guy getting his balls shocked with a cattle prod.

>trying to erase the distinction between conquering a person and conquering a need

>failing this horribly

And for what purpose? I'm open minded but this all seems like pointless semantics without an end.

I dislike de Sade

Is there a distinction? When a man seduces a woman, he calls it a conquest
