New Sun and Urth was better. I'm halfway and don't care about Long Sun. Is this required before I move onto Short?

I had the same opinion and dropped it halfway through but I've been told it makes Short Sun more kino. So don't drop it like I did and keep on going...

Its just a different type of book. It's not the cosmic adventure of New Sun. Its more character driven, by the end of the it there are a few dozen characters you'll be able to imagine anything about. I mean, what does Severian want? But who Silk and Auk or even minor characters like Gulo or even Quetzal are fully flushed out people. And it's writing style isn't necessarily simpler, try saying some of the sentences out loud and you discover how they are beautiful the writing is. Severian and Silk are both men trying not to become monsters, and its just as ambiguous if Silk can be his own man or not. Is Silk George Washington or Vladimir Lenin? Anyhow I could it as an equal or even great than New Sun, give it a try.
