Paris also seems to have undergone a similar fate: I spent a month there last year for the first time in twenty years and I found that all life has been sucked out of the place - anywhere nearby the center is a tourist luna park, each corner is full of chinese people taking selfies, museums are impossible to navigate, and the most interesting parts where outside of the city for me. I have also lived shortly in a couple of large american cities, and the feeling was the same: a lot of places are similar and people are uninteresting. It feels more and more like being in a weird kind of overcrowded village where everyone looks and think the same, and where you can sense that people are deriving their ideas on how to dress and behave from the same two or three online sources. It's fucking dismal. Is New York any different? And how about big cities in China or Japan? I'm asking out of genuine curiosity, it would be great to find a place that still feels alive.
