What an tedious, unrewarding read. Under the Volcano did this dude's schtick much better.

Obamacore literature.

His novel "Herscht 07769":

> While frantically petitioning Angela Merkel to save the universe from particle annihilation, a gentle giant in a German town is driven to a murderous rampage against his neo-Nazi employers after discovering their role in a fatal bombing.

There are only so many disconnected scenes and three-page-long sentences about one-or-another character's internal digressions I could stand after I realized that every one (every SINGLE one) would be about the exact same thing:
>innocent idealism vs the corrupting force of the real world vis a vis considering the corner of a room while conducted by the mob
>innocent idealism vs the corrupting force of the real world vis a vis the children with the gun
>innocent idealism vs the corrupting force of the real world vis a vis man thinking about music and the tuning of a piano
>innocent idealism vs the corrupting force of the real world vis a vis attempting to board up windows
>innocent idealism vs the corrupting force of the real world vis a vis drunks attempting to act out planetary motions
(the list goes on, though not that far, because thousands of words are spent on each of these digressions, to be interrupted now and then by mention of the collapsed tree and hellish mob)
And of course all of this rendered in an intentionally obfuscatory paragraphless style.
Not to mention, and perhaps most sickening of all:
>le overdone Eastern European "innocent idiot" trope

Loved this book. Reread it recently. Once you lock in to the rythm of it it's a joy to read. Way funnier than I remembered it being the first time

The Bela Tar adaptation is great too
