In a world where 90% of the internet traffic is online video streaming, to detriment of the environment and our minds, why aren't you rejecting modernity and going to the library? The library is literally free and fun for all ages. It is the most environmentally and civic minded thing you can do. Instead of being in a haze of pleasure, living in a digital cocoon of reels and streams, why aren't you forging the future of humanity? The weight of the world is on your shoulders and only you can make a better world.

I do
>why aren't you forging the future of humanity?
How is me lending guignol band from my small city library going to affect humanity pray tell?

All your actions will be judged one day by a super intelligence and they will pinpoint the exact moment your marginal notes in a book had convinced the world's next global Napoleon to create a political system that will solve all the existential crises of the world: climate change, war, poverty, disease, political collapse, and the nuclear holocaust.
The library is the mind of society and shall dictate where our future world consciousness may tread. You begin as a humble bookworm, but your actions will echo throughout the centuries, and your ideas will forge the next explorers of the universe.

Who the fuck writes stuff inside books from the library what kind of nigger animal are you

I listen to audiobooks while I work 60 hours a week, does that count?
>>
>>24943918
Because I like to own my books. If I wouldn't have the books lying around in my residence, I probably wouldn't remember half of them. Seeing the books instantly makes me remember the message or the feeling it displays. Same reason why eBooks and stuff are not for me.
And I like to drink wine or whiskey from time to time while reading.

I go to the library with my son pretty often. However it's filled to the brim with eastern Europeans somehow. Both polish and Russian ( I distinguish them from kurwa and blyat)

I don't know anything about Hemingway. Never read him. I think he is american and shot himself or something.
But it sounds like I should read something from him.

libraries are underfunded where i live and have maybe a handful of children's books and outdated textbooks

No it's just weird to me my neighborhood isn't even known for eastern euro migrants. I mean literally 80% of all people inside the library at any time is eastern European.

Only poor people go to libraries. That means minorities. I see and smell too many of those as is.

Owning your own books is fine. It's just recommended you read them more than once to save the planet from an egregious carbon footprint. But it's actually a waste of time to cry about how books cause climate change, because they don't. It's actually movies, since a mid-budget Hollywood movie can emit thousands of tonnes of CO2.
It's hyperethical and almost absurd to say that we can't have art and entertainment because of a carbon footprint, but I do think streaming and movies are the biggest contributors, along with video games and electronics more broadly. But it seems that writing fiction is down on the list of things that actually needlessly cause climate change; all paper books come from plantation timber (in China) and don't require any heavy metals. A lot of writing is already being converted to ebooks or online magazines anyway, on top of print on demand. And e-readers are way less wasteful or environmentally damaging than laptops and gaming rigs. Crying about books using paper is silly. You will not cause an ecological collapse by buying two copies of the same book.

last time I visited the local library it looked like a supermarket paperback stand, all sportsman bios and Hollywood glamor. it was like the stepford wives of libraries.

Jeets. And chinks. Get rid of those groups of people and the planet is saved until Africa undergoes its demographic explosion

If we stopped all humanitarian aid to Africa, all of its demographic problems would be resolved within a single generation.

The library near me is unironically full of slop

This.
My library is nice and central to my city, so I often go there and take a glance at all the shelves.
The non-fiction is all edutainment and any real literature they have is buried between mountains of slop for 40 year old karens.

At this point I just download curated stuff from standardebooks or annas archive if not in public domain.
>>
I have to travel 1 hour to find a library where the staff isn't nonstop yelling like animals.
>>
>>24943918
The library IS modernity. The fact you don't view it as such only goes to show how steeped you are in it.

idk if you heard but there's this crazy event going on in Eastern Europe right now.
here in Leafistan we have a ton of Ukrainian migrants/refugees in lower-rung jobs. went for breakfast with a friend once and literally every waitress at the joint we went to was Ukrainian.
Great time to be a single white man with a decent income, tons of Euro brides-to-be in the proverbial pool
>>
>>24943918
Local library sucks.
>nothing published before 1970 on the shelves
>have to special order anything older which can take weeks
>book clubs meet there to discuss new progressive releases
>lgbt flags fucking everywhere
>>
The amount of library hate itt can only mean you people all had miserable and unliterary childhoods.
>>
>>24944486
How to immigrate into Canada from Eastern Europe that isn't part of the war though. I just want NEETbux so that I don't have to kill myself when my mom dies.
>>
>>24944512
>nothing published before 1970 on the shelves
my local library has been getting rid of all books from before 2006, if you can fucking believe that
it also ticks the other boxes you mention
thank fuck for the internet

Most of the books I want to read they don't have. They do have some audiobooks I want to listen to so that's pretty much what I've been checking out.

There are no libraries nearby, there aren't even bookstores nearby. The internet has blessed me with books instead.

>a place for books
>everyone is staring at some screen on laptop or library computer
>staff probably doesn't even read
>classics of /lit/ pushed back in corner
>meme books about [insert current politics issue] trash, [big tech company/CEO] bad ruining society book written by generic rich person
>library websites have events "learn windows [latest version]", "learn linkedin", "learn how to use AI", "learn how to use internet"
>reading and writing workshops for public are conveniently ignored most of time

hold up I'm getting gaslit here or something. Big tech people clearly haven't bought out the libraries or anything. They clearly don't have some nefarious agenda to turn society into illiterate computer drones.

>go to library
>don't have book I want
or
>go to library
>They have the book I want but only the new shitty translation
or
>go to library
>they have the book I want but not the critical edition

Basically I am too picky (see: neurotic) for libraries when I know I can download any specific edition I want from the internet, or get any edition I want from a ebay or any used book site.
>>
>>24943918
The library is gross.
>shitty books
>poor people
>shity lighting
>shitty desks and seats
>smells funny
>overcome with sudden urge to poop for no reason
I'd much rather buy a shitty book online and live with the regret of not enjoying it and being stuck with it forever, rather than go to a library and get the same book for free for a week or two.
>>
>>24944512
>>24944659
This. Those in charge of libraries today push an agenda.
>>
>>24944659
>Thank fuck for the internet
The internet is directly responsible for making libraries into what they are today, though. Libraries used to serve a higher function as a repository for information that could not be found elsewhere. Now there's Wikipedia and Google, and thanks to them libraries became useless as a store of information. Their only remaining purpose is serving entertainment, and specifically serving entertainment for people who are too retarded to figure out how to pirate a book/movie on their own.

yeah that's right. Get out of my property untermensch. Library is for real philosophers.

All the novels at my local library are foid-porn-slop, boomer spy fiction, and Canadian literature; that is only published out of guilt and pity.
No Raymond Chandler, or anything nice like that.

I'd go there to read my own books and write, but the seats are all taken by teens and it's not chill. Just awkward and clinical.

**But I'd love to meet a literate girlfriend or writing partner at the library . . .
But, that's fantasy and will never actually happen**
And I can't hang out in a nice library like Toronto's reference library, because I was born in Suburban Hell.
>>
My library is very, very bad. The downtown branch. I should start taking the bus to the branch in the nicer part of town. The main downtown location is literally full of hobos, drug addicts and literal African immigrants with schizophrenia. It's more like a social services center than a library.
