Just ordered thisWhat am I getting into?
>>24946147The greatest and most beautiful book of all time. Take your time with it and God Bless you.
>>24946147what translation, if its the nrsv you better throw it out
>>24946190It's the one in the picture.I figured it would be too hard to read for me (not a native english speaker), but the samples I've read online were easy enough to understand.
>>24946192even native english speakers get btfo, especially normies. Even educated people will have some issues especially with words that have changed meaning. but you will understand most of it.I'd still recommend a NKJV which keeps a lot of the feel, NASB or ESV
>>24946147>What am I getting into?Heaven, congrats on salvation OP.
>>24946147Anthology of people trying to figure out what having only one God means, followed by an anthology of people trying to figure out how to turn that one God into a universal religion. There are boring parts, beautiful parts, outdated parts, contradictory parts, profound parts, etc. Dont expect a singular treatise of philosophical truths or even a coherent worldview, and don't treat it as such.
>>24946147>What am I getting into? The mind of God. Go into it with a humble mind, willing to learn, and you'll be blessed beyond belief. Start with 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, consider what it says, and then read from the beginning to understand why.
remember, if you dont take evry word as historical fact that really happened.you're an atheist at best and a performative theist at worst
>>24946147It's a phenomenal work but from an entertainment/quality perspective the Quran is better>>24946422>>24946948>>24946167LARPing fags
>>24946969By all means do what this anon says and read the Qu'ran after the Bible, with the following verses in mind: Galatians 1:8, 1 John 2:22, Matthew 24:24, 2 Corinthians 11:14-15.
>>24946147>What am I getting into?Loss of whatever faith you had during the Old Testament. Then the regaining of it during the New Testament.>t. Looking only for entertainment or historical accuracyRead Neville Goddard before and you'll understand the mindset of those who wrote it.
>>24946147>What am I getting into?A bore fest
>>24946983>Neville GoddardA slick son of the devil denying one of the key cornerstones of faith: that it actually took place in history. If Goddard is right, Paul is wrong and everyone is screwed according to 1 Corinthians 15:17. If the resurrection did not happen, nothing matters, and try as you might, you're not gonna manifest into reality not dying in your sins by just assuming that that's not going to happen.
>>24947055Secular analysis of the Bible is always divorced from its true meaning.
>>24947055If Goddard is right about the Bible being allegorical then the only sin you could commit is remaining asleep to your true identity anyways.>A slick son of the devil denying one of the key cornerstones of faith: that it actually took place in historyAlso a guy who told others to try things out for themselves, so they can see the results of their faith materialize, instead of blindly believing what he preaches without doing anything. >>24947070It's only a secular analysis if you believe him but think the writers were wrong.
lit is full of schizos ranging from new age woo-wooers, to full blown gnostics. this is not a place to learn anything about the bible.
>>24947094I did. It worked, it materialized. I was blown away by the ladder experiment. But Goddard is only right because the Bible is true. He is 95% right and 5% wrong, but that 5% can damn your soul. And that's precisely why his teaching is devilish.
>>24947120Alright sure. Guess that's fair
>>24946983What would you say is the essential Goddard? Do I need anything more than feeling is the secret?
Ugh. I think I'm finally done. Fine. I'll never again effortpost or interact with this place. I'm done. Fine. Done. Fuck off. It was a... tolerable run. Goodbye.
>>24947128There is no secret. Goddard was a head-case. It's written in black and white (and red). Just read the Bible, then read it again and again. There are no secrets to be revealed by gurus, only truths expressed clearly.
>>24947136See you tomorrow.
>>24947136Sheesh. Was it something I said?
>>24947128You don't really need much. Feeling is the Secret is good because it's concise and accessible. If you wish to make his teachings a lifestyle then read his entire works, it's pretty short. My edition is 700 pages.Otherwise after Feeling is the Secret I recommend The Power of Awareness which is an overview of his teachings, The Law and the Promise as it uses a lot of different case stories so, and the 5 Lessons (if that counts as a book). The rest is mostly about the Bible. It's fun though, even if you don't agree with it
>>24947153Mystical idealism is not biblical. It's new age nonsense.
>>24947209It's anterior to new age teachings but alright
>>24947216No, it's congruent, both systems replace the transcendent, sovereign God with the divinized human self as the ultimate creative and controlling power. It's just more navel gazing nonsense from non-believers.
>>24946147It's a trick. Lucifer fell for (you).
>>24947220>NoYes but alright. Anything else I should know about you?
>>24947106Just another way of saying that /lit/ is full of leftoids
>>24947222This is why lit is no place for real theological discussion.. You'll get schizo takes ranging from "Satan is actually the good guy, bro. Trust me." to repackaged Eckhartian ideas spinkled peppered with New Age garbage.>>24947235Just because he precedes New Age thinking doesn't mean he isn't a typical example of that kind of thought, I accept your concession. It takes a sick, and unregenerate heart to seriously take up the self-deifying claims of schizo mystics like Goddard, after reading Scripture's clear declaration of human sinfulness and God's exclusive sovereignty. Get in the book. Tolle lege. Spending time in honest search of the truth in Scripture is all one needs.
>>24947244>I accept your concessionYou're the only one who's trying to argue with me if you haven't noticed
>>24947139Every religion has esoteric teachings. Not arguing that Neville is the guy with all the answers, but I do think there's more to the scriptures than mainstream Christianity would have you believe, especially after 2000 years of elites sanitizing/diluting Jesus' message.
>>24947246I'm arguing against your horrible suggestions to prevent an honest seeker from getting waylaid by nonsense and outright heresy, that you feel no real conviction for them is understandable given their absurd nature.
>>24947248You are correct in that the Scriptures themselves warn of constant attempts to distort and dilute the true message of the Gospel, even from within the early church itself. >As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
>>24947254So you're not here to argue but just to shut me up? Who would've thought
>>24947266Your games are clear enough for all to see. You failing to engage with any of the points I've made is you shutting yourself up, not my doing.
>>24947244>the top of the planet saturn has a hexagon on it's north poll>the center of the hexagram is a hexagon which is the star of david>saturn is actually not satan but the jews god>saturn is more evil then satanoh fuck i need to rethink stuff anon. kek. also why thy fuck is the north poll a hexagram? get into the accult and forbidden dogma to get a better grasp of the the fuck is going on. the bible is slave grooming shit.
>>24947269I never tried once to argue with you because it was obvious enough you weren't looking to have a conversation. And because I just don't want to argue on 4chan in general. However, you failing to give me a proper response to my accusation is a tacit agreement
>>24947275>I can tell I couldn't convince you, so I didn't bother to actually defend any of my positions or engage with yours.Very compelling. I'm sure you'll be tremendously persuasive with the readers of this thread. Thankfully he that has ears to hear, will hear.
>>24947286>>I can tell I couldn't convince you, so I didn't bother to actually defend any of my positions or engage with yours.Yes this is half the reason why. I think 90% of the people here are arrogant retards and you're proving my point.>Very compelling. I'm sure you'll be tremendously persuasive with the readers of this thread. Thankfully he that has ears to hear, will hear.Yep. It was never about winning me over or finding a common ground but winning in the public eye. Thanks for once again, proving my point
>>24947293There is no common ground to be had with rank heresy. Because I argue harshly against the claims you have made isn't any indication of malevolence or malice towards you, In fact, I pray that your eyes will be opened to the beauty and glory of Christ and that you cast away these false ideas.
>>24947302The arguments were as much for you as those you may mislead, and you still have not once with anything I've said, only whined that it would be a waste of your time to do so, yet still you keep replying and casting aspersions upon me. Be honest with yourself. I'm off to go stir my lentils and have dinner.
>>24946147>What am I getting into? The reason that millions of modern blue eyed Europeans were colonized to worship a jewish carpenter
>>24947302Sure. I'll stop my little battle of wits here otherwise we'll be here until tomorrow. Have a nice day.
>>24947309Nevermind I just saw this message lol. Just like that you keep going when it seemed like you wanted to end things amicably. I kept going because it was fun to call out retarded antics without having to waste too much brain cells with somebody who refuses to have their mind changed on anything and who's more interested in winning the crowd or getting quick gotchas with "I accept your concessions", when no concessions was made lol. I'll let you have the last words when you're done with your lentils. Hope they're bussin'
>>24947260Sorry to nitpick, but "his epistles" likely refer to Paul's letters and not the Gospels.
>>24947327isn't everything after the gospels, maybe aside from revelation, just expository teachings OF the gospels?
Been reading the KJV cover to cover for a couple months. Working through the Pauline stuff right now. I can't imagine it not being deeply enriching for almost anyone but there are bound to be chunks that are boring or tedious no matter what your primary interests are.
>>24946147A bunch of fables written by a canannite tribe that much like their Carthagian cousins, used to sacrifice their children to demons to the side of genocide and foreskin collecting
>>24947336A little bit but it's not exactly detailed. It mostly comes from Paul, who never met Jesus and was speaking to a different audience, so he emphasized different things (e.g. faith vs. observance of the law)
remember that god loves you but don't piss him off or he floods the planet and kills 99% of us.
>>24947516We're about due for a good cleansing, wouldn't you say?
>>24946147A book you end up skipping like 2/3rds of. Most of the Old Testament is just pointless measurements and names.
>>24946969>but from an entertainment/quality perspective the Quran is better How? I thought most of it was proverbs tier
>>24947302based
>>24946190I like the NRSV
>>24946167>and Jehoshaphat begat Lemuel who begat Erud who begat Aram who begat Samoch who begat Asraphal who begat Penuel who begatWow so beautiful and inspiring, let's turns to another passage>he shall take a sheep of the flock a year old, and a hin of oil and a kor of flour, and he shall make a cake of the oil and he shall make a cake of the oil ans flour, of choice flour, to dedicate to the LORD as an offering, and he shall slaughter and prepare the lamb and the thigh he shall place on the fire as a burnt offering, of a pleasing odour to the LORD, and the priests shall burn the entrails thereof as an offering, but the flesh ans the forelimbs they shall cook as their own portion (continues for 100 pages)Brilliant stuff, brings a tear to my eye
>>24947336>isn't everything after the gospels, maybe aside from revelation, just expository teachings OF the gospels?Uh no? Paul never read the gospels, wtf are you talking about.
>>24947413Paul did meet Jesus, though. That encounter is so important there are three references to it in the Acts of the Apostles alone (Acts 9, Acts 22, Acts 26). Paul's meeting with the glorified Christ is the most significant event in world history outside of the gospels themselves. Have you people even read this book?
>>24946190Based, it's wildly out of date. Use the NRSVue instead
