Buying books in 2025 is just commodity fetishism
>>24947396>tomesreddit detected>>24947268>>24947416true and based. literature is pure information. computers are extremely good at storing, transmitting and displaying information. printing ink onto paper to transmit information is retarded in this day and age.

I have money to spend and room to spare. Give me one reason why I shouldn't buy books that isn't poor cope.
>>24947416uhh that's not what commodity fetishism means...
>>24947416>>24947434Poorfag cope. Both physical and ebooks are necessary in a well-rounded collection. Could you please stop with these embarrassing copes? Just be honest, you're anonymous.>it's c-commodity fetishism, okay?>fuck my poorfag chud life FUCK
I read both virtual and physicalwhere do I fall
>>24947449not op and i don't use an e-book device nor do i want to, but being able to look up definitions asap without picking up my phone or going to my pc desk seems pretty good. I also don't know if they have a find/replace feature? But would be sick to change gay russian names to normal english names lol. Also depending on the printing/binding of a book sometimes I feel like I'm battling the fuckin thing to stay open. Ideally the book sits on my desk laying open perfectly so I can blast cigs and crank off while I read but that only works nicely halfway through a book. Also besides all e-books being free if you're not an idiot, being able to access them immediately is something. A lot of shit I want can take like 2 weeks for my library hold and none of the book stores near me have it, ordering online takes time to ship too. Not really much of a problem though because there's always something I already have to read while I wait but still, instant access is a benefit. That said I'm never getting an e-book reader because they're gay

>>24947485I have an old tablet that I use for reading, and the majority of what I read this year was actually e-books. If the book is formatted correctly, being able to look at an endnote without actually flipping to the end is nice. And being able to instantly read whatever piques my interest is obviously nice.Still though, I buy whatever books I have real interest in or I just simply want a physical copy of.

>>24947520>Still though, I buy whatever books I have real interest in or I just simply want a physical copy of.same. desu I just like the object. It's funny cuz my biggest hobby is music and I have almost no physical music media and argue for files all day. Books are pretty much the only media where I prefer a physical object

stop using the word luddite
I only buy physical textbooks or books with color illustrations in them. For everything else, I would rather just download the text and start reading on my ereader within 5 minutes of deciding I want to do so.
>>24947268There are some books that I want to have physical copies of, things that I would wish to have if the power was out for days or if the sun or a nuke fried all of my electronics. There are also books, most books honestly, that are not worth having physical copies of, that I would rather "borrow" and download and probably delete after reading instead of paying anything for a physical reminder of the garbage I read and having to offload it to some other unfortunate soul.>>24948094Start giving it a positive connotation.
