I read approximately 300 pages today and it’s only noon. This doesn’t feel all that different from doing nothing desu. Unless you’re actively learning something, or you’re artistically obsessed with a specific kind of fiction, most “reading” of fiction is just passing the time.

Well yeah. It isn't the books fault you have no passion dumbass.

That's why I've switched to nonfiction and haven't looked back since.

Literally anything is done just to kill some time, whether it's done for pleasure such as reading fiction/playing games or doing the things that are hard and that you are supposed to do but actively avoid doing such as your studies/job/projectswhatever.
Have you ever tried actually doing nothing? Stand up straight and stare at a wall, how long can you last?
>In 11 studies, we found that participants typically did not enjoy spending 6 to 15 minutes in a room by themselves with nothing to do but think, that they enjoyed doing mundane external activities much more, and that many preferred to administer electric shocks to themselves instead of being left alone with their thoughts. Most people seem to prefer to be doing something rather than nothing, even if that something is negative.

Said that literature fiction truly is the best form of fiction. Not only can it delight you with fun or sad stories/events, but it also can give you models of behavior to imitate, ideas, scales of comparison, examples of beautiy and ugliness (exterior and interior).
Some of the best movies of all times are adaptations of books for a reason. While video games can be more immersive (thanks to visuals and especially when you lean into VR/AR) the writing in most of them sucks and before going to the next stage of the story you are supposed to do trivial mechanical tasks like grinding a level or beating a boss, which brings nothing to the story aside from being a simple ability check. Not to mention how today open worlds are prevalent in modern games where the main story is left somehwere in background whlie you enjoy your time doing other repetitive activities.

Doing nothing is good, that's what aristicrats do.

every second you spend not having sex with underage girls in the Philippines is wasted time

Not everything resonates, even if one thinks it would.
>>24948707
You think it’s the correct choice?

I’m a Physicist and I was talking about Gore Vidal’s Julian and Delilo’s Cosmopolis. They were fine, but I didn’t feel as if I gained anything out of reading them.
>>24948787
I get that, but I happen upon this resonance far too rarely. More often than not reading literature fiction leaves me, not cold, but rather unfulfilled. Unless I “gel” with something.

I wish I was an aristocrat…

Uh-huh…

But those are rare and I think it’s also subjective when it comes to personal attraction towards a certain novel or some such.

If you're not trying to do anything special with your life then you're retarded.
If you're actually trying to make an impact on the world in some way then just read books that will make you closer to that aim. If you're trying to be an artist or a politician just tell yourself that reading well written fiction improves your rhetoric.

I guess I was aiming to fulfil my potential, whatever that may be. But I’ve never been the sort to terribly believe in myself. And I’ve always been inquisitive and indecisive, so I always ask myself whether that book or film has the “thing” that will lead me down a certain road. So I try a bit of everything.

Curious why you picked these two books?

This. Reading nonficton leads to a better life. Reading fiction is a hobby, a fun source of entertainment.

I'm artistically obsessed with kino including film, classical music, opera, ballet, art, and, most of all, literature.

You're a minor

Not at all. I don't really think you can fully appreciate a lot of the best art has to offer without becoming a bit bored of what life otherwise has to offer

>>24950005
You're not helping your case

You'll know what I'm talking about when you get older

Will I be artistically(?) obsessed(wow) with kino(child) including film(movies), classical music(yeah totally), opera(lol), ballet(lmaooo), art(as opposed to the rest of the list), and, most of all(most of all), literature(you're illiterate)?
