I just realized that it would be impossible for the so called polyglots of literature to be fluent in all the languages they wrote.
>>24949602can you go more into that , I know a little bit about polygots , but I can't read. so I want to know what you mean by polygot of literature.
>>24949602That may be, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating; it seems best to judge their writings by the writing itself rather than how fluent or not they were in the language.
>>24949650What the fuck did you just say?
>>24949654Just what I said? If their writings in different languages were good and well done, who cares whether they spoke the language fluently in conversation? The writing stands or falls on its own merits.
>>24949662Nigga how are you going to write a good book in a language you’re not fluent in?
>>24949642joyce and tolkien.
>>24949662but you can learn enough grammar and use a dictionary.Writing is not the same as being able to talk to others fluidly in a language.
>>24949670Because you've read a lot in it and you have a grasp of it in writing but not conversational fluency?>>24949676Yeah, pretty much. But as I said, if the writing is good, who cares?
>>24949672well then , I assume they do speak it , but they sound a little bit like garbage , they put an ungodly amount of time into them. and if you change the topic to much they break.but they do speak them. like a lot of legit polygots , insatid of the fake ones. god bless autism.
>>24949683as far as I know , trying to edge languages is the meta for the averge legit polygot that and autism. polygot comunity actually seem closer to comunities like tarot , with a middle class of people , almost being fakers , a big amount of fakers , and a mythical race of people who are conpetnent and give the comunity its reputation.
>>24949680>>24949683>>24949690my argument is that I'm fluent in english because of spending 15 years on 4chan talking daily, and before that I spend 3 years studying it, and 4 years more using the english internet.Claiming that you can reach fluency is not possible for more than 3-4 languages.
>>24949680Name 1 good book written by someone who didn’t speak the language fluently.
>>24949691>my argument is that I'm fluent in english because of spending 15 years on 4chan talking daily, and before that I spend 3 years studying it, and 4 years more using the english internet.>Claiming that you can reach fluency is not possible for more than 3-4 languages.thats a resonable argument , I kind of agree in the context of the normal paradime , but I do think thier is problably an underexplored world of language , the mytical true polygot, that being said , for me to say any Autor is one of those would be silly.most polygots agree with you preposition at least , or the intent anyway.what they do is just reach the minimun for fluency aggressively , is not entirely the same as learning english , since that is the verry important globohomo lanaguage.imaging talking with someone who only knows 30% greek , but they are very clever in using that 30% , thats how it goes for them.I think they could be larpers , their is a reason I compared polyglots to tarot.although , if I had to guess , I would assume they are the type of larper who is semi decent at one part of the language (that being writing) and just over inflates their abilities a ton.I wonder why isn't the limitacion of lanaguge shelldom talked about in philosophy though, you could trough abstraction and a a theory of everything , teach one man all the knowlege we have , but this constant reality of language goes against that.
>>24949693Bunch of Chinese poetry written by Japanese people who could read and write Chinese but not speak it. Much of it's not great, but the best is pretty damn good.
>>24949602it's not hard to learn a language if you already know some of it and you spend your time reading books or watching film instead of doomscrolling 4chins endlessly です
>>24949716That's why I have a rule that I don't use the Internet in my native language on Mondays and Fridays, to force me to practice other languages.
>>24949602who ios this huggable cutie?
